I have Fibro and other problems, but, following a fall in the garden, it was established that as well as Osteoarthritis, I had damaged my knee. Six weeks ago I had complete knee replacement surgery. I am having problems bending my knee. I was discharged with codeine prossphate and paracetamol. Two weeks later it was suggested these pain relievers were not strong enough. My GP when changed to Tramadole and paracetamol. Still trouble bending so changed to liquid morphine (Oramorph). Since yesterday I have felt headaching and nausea - actually projectile vomited yesterday evening. Unable to get GP appointment. Has anyone else felt like this after taking Oramorph? Can anyone suggest any help? Thank you.

Liquid morphine

Hi, maybe you should call 111. They will be able to help you speak with a GP or get you another appointment.
Sorry for your situation, I have been told by my GP they won't put me on liquid morphine as the side effects are just what you are describing. So all I can say is try to get back to see the consultant or pester your GP to be seen.
Hi there, I'm so sorry you are having these problems. I have liquid Morphine, but only for when it's a really bad day. I also need a new knee, but as I'm 51 the surgeon says I'm too young to have it as a knee replacement lasts about 10 years. If you can't get to see GP, maybe try and contact the secretary for your surgeon at the hospital? Or do your doctors have an out of hours service? Either way you need help to manage this pain. Gentle hugs sweetheart.
Oramorph sulphate has many known side effects it's written in the instructions that it comes with . Some people can not tolerate it. Just make sure you are taking the right amount and of it's still causing you to be sick then I'm afraid it's only a Dr who can give you something else. Morphine is one of the strongest pain killers they will prescribe and I personally don't know of anything else. Hopefully they can do some for you . Take care
Nausea, vomiting, headaches and hallucinations are frequent side effects of Oramorph, especially for prolonged use.
hi I have osteoarthritis on my back pain killers never work then they give morphine patch I was on 5 mg it never work then they up it to 10mg.I had to take it off due to side effects.so I have liquid 5mg which seem to work a bit better then the patch.may be you could try the patch.
Hi GillieGG , everyone is different on different meds start off at lowest dose and see how you go , I had tea spoon last night and I couldn't email my bladder fully I was struggling for it to actually flow out properly, but I don't always get that I hadn't had morphine for a while because my pain in hips and back havnt been as bad and make sure you take 2 paracetamol with it , that helps more xx
Sorry to hear your medication isn't agreeing with you. I was on codine but now on morphine patches called sevodyne these work much better with no side effects as yet. I'm on 15mg which is so much better. Hope you can find something that works for you.

Sorry too read the medication has made you sick , are you able too speak too your surgery if not like Dizzy says 111 service are good, I will have too have a knee replacement at some point any tips or helpful information you can offer me? I hope they can sort the right pain meds for you , take care xx
I have used Oral Morph quite a lot in the past and I didn't experience this, I think Dizzytwo is right, phone 111 and go back to your GP. Please don't take any Tramadol in the immediate future (until you have spoken to your GP at least), rest up x
Drink lots of water to replace your fluids from being sick and ask your GP about taking Tramadol again with 2 paracetamol tablets. There are lots of nerves behind the knee cap, maybe ask your GP about meds that help with nerve pain, if you experience sharp pains, it's likely to be nerve-related. Just Oral Morph is not the best for that anyway. I am not medical, but there are lots of nerve type medications available, to name a few; there are Nortriptyline, Amtriptyline, Gabapentin and Pregablin(although I hated Gabapentin). Your GP will be able to discuss your options much better than me.
I think your GP or the discharge team should organise some form of physio, apologies, I thought that would be standard after a knee replacement, maybe the NHS is not offering that now? Hydrotherapy being non-weight bearing may help more, I have knee trouble, I use a float and press down on it with my foot, that strengthens the muscles that control the knee (and takes pressure off the knee-cap).
I have been diagnosed with chronic pain state as well as fibro. From personal experience, I found Nortriptyline taken at night to be effective for nerve-type sharp pains. I used to feel like I had knives plunging into my legs, Oral Morph just took the edge off, and, Nortriptyline helped ease the central sentisation, or wind-up as some call it, so both medications combined provided a little relief. Also, be careful if offered Fentanyl patches, some think it's the best pain relief but I had a very scary experience with that, it may not be offered but if it is ask your GP lots of questions and please be very careful. I would also ask to see a pain consultant because GP's prescribe the go-to tablets without really understanding the nature of pain and this might be necessary if you can't tolerate opioids well. Also I find cbd oil and tens machine helpful for pain relief. I hope you feel a bit better soon x
hi I’ve never taken liquid oramorph so cannot answer your question, the only time I had projectile vomiting was when I was prescribed a medication for diabetes I was told that I was allergic to the medication and not to take it anymore. You may have the same issue with the liquid oramorph. If you are in the UK you will have to fill in an econsult on line to get a doctors appointment. Codeine tablets are strong painkiller's they convert to morphine in your liver but they are very addictive, therefore doctors don’t generally like you to take them for too long, but they may help you for the short term they come in different strengths . Alternatively you could speak to your pharmacist and get some advice if you are concerned they may offer some advice. I hope you get help soon have you been offered physio therapy for your knee or offered steroid injection to help with the pain, it may be worth considering and asking your healthcare provider for advice. Good luck.
Take slightly less than recommended amount.I was vomiting initially but worked out 10 was too high. Found 8mls worked.
Needs precise pouring
