night pain

I’ve recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia after 10 yrs of pain !! And also hyper mobility & osteoarthritis, I work as a hairdresser full time and take

Naproxen twice a day

Co-codamol up to 3 times a day

Duloxatine nightly

Amitriptyline odd night ( don’t like to take every night )

Last night I forgot to take my naproxen & had the most horrible night’s sleep ever every muscle in my body was screaming!! My partner said I’m like washing machine going round and round all night !! I feel like I’ve been in one !!

I love my job & can’t afford not to work but is there any financial help I could try for so I could maybe cut my hours at work ?

Hi there. A helpful link Dizzytwo has put here for you too use, horrid when broken sleep is affecting the day Pain keeps you awake and you’ve still the day too face ☹️have you had a recent catch up with your doctor ?just a thought sometimes a tweak here and there and see if anything else could be tried for you medication wise. Full time hairdresser is quite a load especially with the standing and posture, I do hope there will be some form of help for you too reduce your working hours soon, in the meantime take care xx

Thank you ☺️ I’ve only just started on the new night time meds so have to continue with a review in a month to possibly increase the dose , so got to wait till then fingers crossed it helps me keep going as I’ve been a hairdresser for 42 yrs I know my job is hard on the body , my hands are so painful at night , dr suggested I retire 😂 I am like many still got a mortgage easier said than done !! Thank you for your response

Personal Independence payment I don’t know is self employed as this I know causes bumps in benefits 🥰

Hi, you have my sympathy as I was also a hairdresser for 45 yrs and loved my job. I have FM and thyroid and as time has gone on various other problems ( I’m 71 now) . I would recommend going for PIP now, it is an accepted disability for PIP. The reason I say now is it does take time to get it, I won’t lie and it is stressful! I got turned down and stopped trying until a colleague told me to try again, I did, got turned down again but appealed and eventually got it!!! Probably sounds like I’m trying to put u off, but the opposite applies, it does take time, it isn’t easy BUT it is worth it when you are accepted. Don’t be afraid to ask for help from people who know, I got help from Steps, they were great. Good luck and don’t give up😘

Not sure this will help much but my lovely (healthy) hairdresser fell out with her boss and has just gone into business on her own. It has relieved much stress for her being her own boss. She was all smiles about it as it seemed to be working out for her. As it sounds like you need more daytime rests, working for yourself might just be more restful and ultimately less painful for you? - Might you also consider finding a good Chinese trained acupuncturist or even a dry needler/massage therapist and come to an arrangement with them so you can get pain relief and energy boosts that way and exchange your skills for free. Good luck resolving this.

Hi Applespearspeaches, I'm so sorry to hear about your struggles. Those are some of the health issues i have also. You can either give up work and apply for Employment Support Allowance (only apply for the one related to your tax), and Pip. Or you can go part-time and apply for Pip. Either way, you can apply for Pip to get support, even if you work full time. You can also look into getting aids and adaptations at work to help you due to your pain and discomfort. All the best 😍
