Muscle spasm in right hand??? Has anyone else had/ have this?

I can barely use my right hand, I am right handed. The spasms run up to mid arm. Has anyone had a similar problem. I am at my wits end, I don't know how to reduce it. I use magnesium, high doses of Nortritypline and nothing seems to help?

I think the issue is coming from my neck? Neck very sore, currently I have a neck brace on. I do some light stretches of neck and use heat on neck and hand. Any suggestions to improve the problem, I would be very grateful...

Yes I get the spasms regularly but then again I do have chronic arthritis in neck and shoulders. Is it fibro causing it or is it the arthritis? who knows. What I do know is the chiropractor helps with the neck and the spasms subside a little so it may be a combination of fibro and arthritis in my case. Beware of using a neck brace unless prescribed by the medics as my chiro thinks they can do more harm than good as they tend to cause the shoulders to tense and the spine to twist as you move.

Ask your GP to check your vit D levels as low levels can cause muscle cramps and aches and pains. I find biofreeze helps with the pain. Hot wax treatments on the hands helps with the spasms too. I also have some cold gloves, bit like oven mitts filled with cold gel. I wasn't too sure about using them but as they were a gift gave them a go and have to say I was quite impressed so something like that may give you some relief. Hope you find something that works for you.

It may be the nortriptyline that's causing it, I had a similar issue 3 months in to taking that and it was the meds so they switched me to duloxetine. Speak to your GP as there are alternatives

Spasms can be very painful and I am guessing you have been too see your doctor recently /or hospital as you say wearing a neck brace ? I would differently get some blood tests done too eliminate certain things and hopefully the doctor will help you get too the bottom of this. Take care x

HI.Getvrid of the neck brace. They help rest the neck after an injury but cause so many more problems.

Sadly, the hand spasms and weakness is a symptom of foraminal stenosis, which in layman's terms is when damage from arthritis or inflammation, slowly narrows the inside of the spinal cavity and pinches local areas of the spinal cord.

I have the same problem (though luckily not my dominant hand). The only non-surgical treatment is rest and anti-inflammatories.

You could try a different sleeping position. Different pillows. Orthopedic pillows make my symptoms worse.

But mainly, you need to get rid of the collar. Keeping your head still in a collar is unnatural and will quickly weaken your the muscles that are not just there to hold your head up, but also to protect tyour spine.

I'm not medically qualified, but I have been dealing with the results of DDD and osteoarthritis of the spine, for many years.

I wish I could help you more and wish you all the very best.

I have muscle pain and a swollen-up left-hand ankle. I really cant even type on a phone or even a knife properly and I have decided to have a naturopathic treatment. I heard that it's really worthy even though the treatment period would be more than any other treatments.
