Hi Paula, that is so lovely that you have remained such good friends with your ex that he is willing to take care of you. From what I understand, he doesn't have to live with you to claim Carer's Allowance but he does have to satisfy certain criteria. I have put a link to the Gov.UK website that explains the eligibility criteria etc. I have also put a link that will take you to the contact details for Janet the FMAUK Benefits Advisor should you wish to get in touch with her for some expert advice. Take care and good luck. x

Hi

Yes he can claim carers allowance if meet criteria below

1spend at least 35 hours a week caring for a disabled person (you don't have to live with them or be related to them)

2 care for someone who receives the higher-rate or middle-rate care component of Disability Living Allowance, either rate of Personal Independence Payment daily living component, or any rate of Attendance Allowance

3 do not earn more than £120 a week (after deductions)

are not in full-time education.

However please be aware if you are on certain benefits yourself and claim disablement element on then you will lose this .
