I've recently had a blood test to check B12, Vitamin D and Folic Acid. Apart from the vit D which I'm still waiting on (for some unknown reason) my results are as follows:
Vitamin B12 - 1001 (apparently the mineral hospital in Bath said this was "slightly above the normal")
Folic Acid 5.4
Also told that my ANTA?? was Negative but I have no idea what this is.
OH, NOT SURE WHAT THE MEASUREMENT UNITS ARE BUT I LIVE IN ENGLAND, UK
** Edited - I don't take any B12 supplements and never have done. This test was done due to concerns I have about various symptoms **
I'm a bit concerned my B12 may be too high as I'm sure I've read something somewhere stating that high levels could be a cause for concern. Am I worrying about nothing? I'm hoping you lovely, knowledgeable people can help. π

Hi Tigerlily, think you may mean ANA which is the test for Lupus which you say is negative. I think you probably need to talk to your GP. What is a normal level for one person at one particular stage in their life would be different for somebody else at another stage. There needs to be people inside and outside average/normal ranges for a average to be set. Not much help I know but I'm not a medic - just someone who has family history of Lupus.
Thanks Dinkie. I'm not sure why they did the ANA as I've previously been tested for lupus although this was at a different hospital in the area. I'm also fairly sure the mineral hospital had done this as well. Previous tests for lupus were also negative.
Just need to get the vitamin D result and I appear to have a cough again! Already been on 2 lots of antibiotics for infections since March which makes me think the vitamin D is low. Even my work colleagues are commenting that my cough is back! I just want to feel better and it's frustrating when blood tests show I'm apparently "normal"!!!!
Try the sister forum to this (Pernicious Anemia ) there are some great people on there who can give you plenty of information and advice on B12, vitamin December, and folic acid.
I've found out almost everything I know about B12, vitamin D and folic acid (B9) from the people on that forum.
I would make appt to see your practice Nurse, AnA i think is to eliminate Lupus? which is good if its neg. B12 defficiency is given via an injection but I have no idea how they lower it, B12 is leaned towards energy levels too. I often wish they would send a detailed lay out of readings with levels to help us,, whatever you do dont buy any supplements let your gp prescribe the correct dose if you need anything.
