I can tell you that when I took early retirement from nhs at age 61 I was granted ESA maybe look on the DWP websight about qualifying for that, I know you have to reduce your working to no less than 16 hours (might have changed since I stoppped) I am trying to get my younger sister to do the same as she has had 17 years suffering from Ankylosing Spondilitis, numeorus steroid injectons which have now been stopped due to bone density results. Maybe find yourself a Welfare Rights Officer or the support of a union rep if you have one, they helped me enormously.

Don't give up your job before taking advice

If you don't qualify for ESA you will only get JSA and then be expected to sign a JS agreement that will mean you will need to look for work .

You would get CT Benefit and they may pay a little towards your mortgage

Look at DWP site for more info

Hi mercy53 , it is worrying when you have to consider leaving work and it is a big decision. Hidden and Rose54 have given you some helpful advice and you may also find it helpful to speak to Janet, the FMAUK Benefits Advisor. The link below will take you to her contact details and also to some other links you may find useful. Good luck and keep us posted on how you get on. Take care. x

Benefits you might qualify for are Employment and Support Allowance (ESA): Income Support, Council Tax Reduction and Personal Independence Payment. Help with mortgage costs has recently changed. It is now a loan that has to be repaid when the property is sold. See this website for details
