So I've been prescribed 7.5mg zopiclone today. Ive been struggling to sleep for months!! I have tried so much but nothing helps. So took my first pill hour ago and omg that nast taste just came out of no where. I brushed my teeth, used mouth wash, chewed on airwaves menthol gum, rinsed my mouth out with salty water, ate half a lemon, at half a green chillies and nothing helps.

Make sure mouth is moist by drinking water before swallowing pill with plenty of water and wash it down well!

I can commiserate vile taste. I sick an aniseed twist or Jakemans black cough sweet after. As soppysokes says making sure the mouth is moist so the tablets don't stick to your tongue helps. Good luck with them hope the bad taste is worth it.x

I hadthese and used to chew gum the following morning as I found it was the only thing that would get rid of the taste it stays with you all day andcdverything tastes awful I swapped in the end to zolpidem which does not leave an awful taste in the mouth.

I've been taking these for 6yrs and I find taking a few mouthful of water and each mouthful I leave it in mouth and slowly swallow allowing it to kind of slowly flow over area of tastebuds....it will take a few times but does work. Also chewing a softmint or extra strong mint will help ...

Hope this helps ! 🙂

The taste llasted a day and a half and I felt like I've lost my appetite. The taste is so vile! How about if I put that tablet in a small grape and swallow it?? Will that help??

Putting in a grape may make u chew as a normal reaction u'd have when eating them ....unless u have a glass of water in hand...I tried putting in a few different items of food and some how the food seemed to soak up the taste which made it even worse ...

I've found holding water in mouth over area u can taste tablet and slowly swallow each mouthful .... I also place tablets not too far back and drink as quick as possible so far I only get taste every now and then .....I'll stop waffling and hope you sort out best way for yourself 🙂

You could put the pill in a teaspoon of jam of honey as when I was nursing it was something we did for people who have trouble swallowing tablets my son can’t swallow them at all he eats a biscuit with his which does mean chewing his pills which is not good for him but he can’t seem to take them any other way. I don’t think it’s how you take the tablet though I honestly think it is just a side effect of those tablets as everything you eat the next day tastes foul. You could see if you’re dr could change them to zolpidem they don’t have the same problem of the taste but are similar to zopiclone.

There's a mint out there that keeps your mouth hydrated and with a mint taste. You can actually sleep with them too. The night time ones stick to the roof of your mouth, and in the morning you can take off the adhesive. (Not as bad as it sounds) I cant remember the name, I'll search it out. Also you can have it in your mouth all day. It was a life saver for my old job, where I spent most of the time on the phone.

I thought i would only get the metallic from swallowing the pill And maybe it got on my tastebuds so next time I tried to really throw it back with heaps of water and still got the taste and this time I opened a lemsip capsule emptied it out and put the zopiclone in the capsule and swallowed that and thought Yass that’s all better and about 20 minutes later and t had dissolved and it started creeping back up Into my mouth and now I regret even trying because this taste is unbearable even when I breath it’s gross Ahahah I think it’s just a side affect of the pills, not as bad for some but it’s so bad for me the taste stays in my mouth for days Gonna try a different pill like Zolpidem

I know exactly what you mean. No matter what you do the taste doesn’t go away. I tried to tell my doctor but he ignored me. I have terrible insomnia staying up 3 maybe 4 nights in a row sometimes. It pisses me off so much that I have to suffer because my doctor has some sort of stigma around Zolpidem so he will only give me Zopiclone which I don’t really take unless I hit around 6 days no sleep and even then it’s hard to sleep with that taste. I pray I can get a good sleep even once every two weeks. The funny thing is I asked him for 5 tablets a month of Zolpidem but was still turned down.

The taste has nothing to do with the tablet touching your tongue it’s the effect that makes a what people describe as a metallic taste in the mouth. Once the taste comes I know the tablet has started working. Taking it with jam or grape or anything else suggested on here won’t make a difference

I wish I knew...the taste is dreadful and stays all day the next day. Even drinking water or food tastes like metal/chemical all next day. The medication really works great though. I think i'm just going to try and get used to it...what is this zolpidem people keep mentioning? What is the actual chemical name of it? I'd like to ask my doctor if it's an option

Guys... I've read all the responses. You will definetly not get rid of the taste by putting it in a grape, or flushing your mouth. It's not how it work. There is something in the substance itself, that once in s your system finds a way to secrete into your saliva. Funny thing, I've been reading on a diferent forum about 2 different persons who tried to admnisiter the Zopiclone tablet rectally (like a suppository) and to their shock and amazement 15-20 minutes later after the Zopiclone tablet has been absorbed rectally, the metallic taste appeared in their mouths :))

As I'm still bothered by this effect I'm still open to somebody more knowledgeable in advanced chemistry / and advanced pharmakokinetiks about a solution to this problem. It woud most certainly involve crushing the zoppiclone together with some other substances in a way that it could potentially alter the after-taste intro something more pleasurable. Any chemists around here ?
