Personally I would get your diary printed off if you can. I took a small bottle of water into one of my assessments and was questioned about how long I could hold the bottle for and if I could lift it!
They always make the appointments at 9am if they can. They want to see how you manage to get there that early, through rush hour etc.
Is this your first assessment? Might be able to help with a few other things if I know what the appointment is for.
My two assessments (well one was my Tribunal) were both for ESA so I'm wondering whether the questions they ask may be different for PIP?
I think the biggest piece of advice I would give you is not to be taken in by the assessor being really nice to you and pretending that they actually care about your condition. Obviously some of the assessors are genuine, but I would just be careful. They can lull you into a false sense of security so that you say more than you would perhaps like to.
Do not say you have good and bad days. This is taken to mean that you are just picking and choosing what you want to do.
Always go by your really bad days when you answer every question. If something causes you pain whilst you are doing it, don't forget to mention that as well.
Take your repeat prescription list with you so that you can show it to your assessor. I was assessed by ATOS and the report was a complete joke. I was asked how I travelled the 20 miles. I said by coach. The report said that I had driven myself there with ease, which was completely untrue.
Is someone going with you? Personally I think it is really important for you to take someone with you when you go. It shows that you need help getting from A to B.
No! Do not record the assessor. It could invalidate your whole claim, and is inadmissible in any event. If you want your assessment recorded you will have to let them know. However, this could delay your assessment. Personally I wouldn't request it to be recorded but it's up to you.
I have a mobility car that's how I would get there with my husband and only live 15 minis away, I know I will have to go to bed very soon to get up for that time.but most probably won't sleep all this seams to make it worse.
i also don't always have control of my bowels so I won't be able to eat after 4 pm on the day before.
When I am nevours I am worse, so I just don't eat before any appointments.
Don't forget to tell the assessor everything you have just told me. It is a bit embarrassing discussing bodily motions but it is important that the assessor knows everything. I have a similar problem.
Good luck. I hope you get the outcome you deserve xx
They already know my doctor has told them. I have told the when ever I go out I take a spare set on cloths with me there is a permanent set in my car with wipe etc. And very rarely go out before I have been to loo. Lol that's why I don't eat if I have an appointment any where .
Please tell me What was your out come and did you hold your bottle long because I know I could hold a small bottle of water for a good while I have never said I can't,
I have been has honest as I can saying I can do more on a good day not as good on a reasonable day and nothing much a all on a bad day. My doctor has Evan had to come and see me. Which I would have preferred these guys to do.
Don't forget I am talking about my experience of ESA assessments, not PIP. As I said above I did win my claim eventually, but it took 18 months in all. I too was honest about everything. I said that yes I could hold the bottle for a short period of time, but that I wouldn't be able to hold it for long periods of time.
I don't advocate lying and have never lied on any of my claims.
Maybe it would be an idea to edit your post title and add PIP to it, so hopefully you will get some advice from people who have had PIP assessments. As I said, I don't know if they are different.
Good luck they like to give you 9am no matter where you come from mine was 9am had to get up early too but got there just tell them about your bad days not good ones and let them know if you got any aids you got to help you round the home I.e bathroom and kitchen and your room and if any one as to help you out of bed and get washed and dressed good luck xx
I have already listed my aids and things I need help with.
But I will tell them again.
Wow if I just tell them about the bad days I don't need a car at all, because quite honestly I am usually stuck in bed or on recliner don't go out at all, don't get dressed, shower and can't Evan make a brew.
If I was on a bad day I would have to cancel my appointment because I would Evan get through the front door, infact if they were all so bad it would be bye bye world.
