Hi all, had yet another blood test a couple or so weeks ago, as GP said my iron levels looked low from a previous blood test. Well results finally came back and I went to see my GP today. B12 is fine, but iron levels are down to 8. GP said they should be a lot higher. No wonder I have been feeling rough of late and more tired with dizzy spells. We all battle on thinking it's the fibro affecting us. Because I also suffer from IBS, doctor wants to find the reason why my red count is low so sending me for a Colorectal screening which I booked today and will be in 3 weeks time. Meantime samples to take back to GP (lovely) and a course of high iron tablets to be taken 3 times a day. There is always something!! Has anyone on here been through any of this, would appreciate your feedback.

Good morning tannels,Iam having blood tests done today but have not had the anaemia since having fibro, only in the past.Your count is extremely low so no wonder you have been feeling so rough, poor you.Hope it goes well with your procedure you are having xxx
hi Haribo, thanks for your reply. I hope you get on ok with your blood tests today. I took samples into the Surgery today, so I can now start taking my iron tablets. At least that's a start.
Hi Tannels, ditto! I've never been anaemic in my life before but my levels are now very low. I had a gastroscopy last week and due to have a colonoscopy in a couple of weeks time. Not been put on iron tablets yet though - I guess the GP is waiting to get the results f the tests first. Having done my research I think it's because I've been put on calcium tablets for osteopenia and apparently calcium interferes with the body utilising iron. I've started taking the calcium between meals in the hope this will give my body time to absorb any iron from my food and my multivit x
hi Mistymeana, thanks for your reply. How did you get on with the gastroscopy, was it an ordeal, or did they put you out for that. It's been years since I had the last one. GP said I needed to start the iron tabs as soon as, due to getting other symtoms from the anaemia. I know it will take a while to kick in, but need to be patient. Sorry to hear about your osteopenia, are you able to manage the condition. There is always something else that goes with the fibro, which makes everything else that little bit worse.
I have a gastroscopy a few years ago and was coerced into just having the throat spray - not much fun at all. This time I insisted on sedation so can honestly say I don't really remember much about it apart from the tea and biscuits afterwards . Hopefully the colonoscopy will be much the same with the added bonus of flatulence from all the gas they pump in. Can't wait!
Yes, sedation will be the one for me. A friend of mine did mention the gas, when she had hers done lol.....something to look forward to. Wish you all the best with that. Take care.
