Morning Deb, it may not necessarily be the meds as the eyesight suffers thru fibro aswell, I guess it makes sense as we have muscles in the eyes there somewhere, and as the fibro affects the muscles, ligaments, tendons, ad nerve endings there really isn't any part of our bodies that this bummer of a condition doesnt affect is there, I once had to have my glasses change twice in two months, there is a tablet that you cn buy over the counter or the doctor can prescribe for you which is called Perivision, I was told by my optician that everyone over 50 should automatically take an eye vitamin, ....hope this helps...gentle hug.....Dee x

amitriptyline is well known for causing blurry vision.

There are loads of alternative antidepressants (which is what amitriptyline is) used for fibro - a common one for fibro is duloxetine. Then there are anticonvulsant drugs like gabapentin and pregabalin (lyrica) that can also reduce pain but are not without side-effects.

Actual painkillers like co-codamol and tramadol may be helpful too.

Hi Deb, I really think that you need to talk to your doctor about this as they will know about the side effects of any medications they have prescribed for you. Yenool mentions other medications, but in reality, here we recommend that doctors should be your first line of advice. We can only give advice from our own experiences, which unless we are qualified medics, we need to be careful.

Thanks everyone for your comments much appreciated x

I'm allergic to amitriptyline, and my doc told me that therefore there were no other meds available for me. I can't take co-codamol because of my diverticular disease. So I try to avoid painkillers altogether and when things get so bad that I can't go on I take paracetamol and ibuprofen together. I guess you have to weigh the pros of the drug you're taking with the cons of the side effects. Discuss them in more detail with your doc, he or she will be the best person to know what else is available for you and your particular needs.

Hi Debstops

I am really sorry to read that you are having this problem. I have never come across a pain killer that hasn't given me vision problems unfortunately. I sincerely hope that you can find some semblance of resolution to your problem.

Take care

Hi, if you are in the UK you can get co-dydramol which might help you. Doesn't seem available in USA when I have mentioned it before. I didn't know Amitriptyline causes eye problems - you may have answered one of my questions!
