I have arthritis as well as fibro and the steroid injection made my arthritis great for a few weeks but then they were stopped as they were only masking the pain and I was doing things that were making the arthritis worse, but it was great being able to run for a while

Thanks for that, may try the injection. Just a bit worried that may feel better in the short term only to hit another low if pains return at the same level.

I have had quite few into my left hip. I also had one directly into my spine (sacro-illiat joint). The ones into my hip wern't painful to have done as the Dr sprayed the area with numbing stuff first and the injection gave me around 6-8 weeks of relief. The one into my spine was excruciating so if they are planning to do that to you then I wanted to warn you what to expect :) It did give me about the same length of time of relief.

I then had to go to for a bone scan as the steriod can affect the bone density. It was found my bone density was affected so I've not had any since.

That is as much as I can tell you. Hopefully it helps you :)

The rhumey has said it will be a general one in my bottom, so I dont think it is the same as yours. Thanks for the warning about the one in your spine, you seem to have gone through a lot, bless.

Personally no, I had three and none of them worked for me. They are quite painful in varying degrees by nature, but for many they work and are worthwhile. I had them in my elbows and knee.

It is possible to have trigger point injections made up of local anaesthetic and steroids, these are supposed to be quite effective but have to be repeated.

Some info below if you click on the link about trigger point injections -

Thanks for the info link, this is something I will ask at my next appointment.

Hope you find something to work for you and your pain fibro hugs

I've also had steroid injections in my elbows and knees. First knee ones gave pain relief for 7 weeks, second ones actually caused more pain, and the elbow ones hurt like hell, and gave no relief at all. I definitely won't be having any more

Thanks for your viewpoint, am as confused as ever ha ha . Its good to get others opinions. I suppose its just like some painkillers work for some and not for others.

You have to weigh up what you feel is right for you.

Yes I agree Maladjusted, elbow injections are not nice at all, ouchie in fact, but if it needs to be done, anything's worth a try. I actually found them more painful after the injections than before, so it defeated the object for me. I have Tennis and Golfer's Elbow in both elbows as well as Fibromyalgia so I think my elbows are a lost cause to be honest. It helped with my knee for a short while though.

I also have both tennis and golfers elbow in both arms, and believe me I have tried everything, but they don't want to heal. In desperation last year I had tendon release surgerty - and now it is even worse, plus following surgery I have lost grip in my right index finger, as it doesn't bend at the knuckles now without pain.

Now my doc thinks perhaps it was caused by Fibro all along. Grrr! I wish someone had told me that before I went through the surgery. Oh well I suppose it was worth a try and wasn't nearly as painful as those cortisone shots. Though they did work for a while with my knees, even if totally ineffective on the elbows.

I guess we all react differently.

Trigger point injections have given me some semblance of life ... I have them every three months and I would be Devastated if they stop. I have them in my neck and shoulder ,, l little sore for 24 hours but you can feel the muscles unspasm and relax, they last about three months I have gone from have a tension headache every week due to neck and shoulder spasm to one a year.... I get them from my local pain clinic...

I had trigger point injections into my neck and shoulders. Also had the anaesthetic and steroid mix into my sacro illiac joint. The first lot worked really well and lasted a good 8 to 20 weeks and I thought wonderful, could even dance at my 40th. Second had less relief and final one not much at all. I was told before the first lot that if it didn't work, then could look at botox or burning nerves, only to be told it has become more widespread, so couldn't do it.

I also had steroid injection into my elbow 20 years ago as I had golfers elbow, it worked and never came back. Probably will now, I already have tendonitis.

Thanks for your comments, I'm left with a lot to think about.

Its great being able to pick the brains of people who understand the pains, fatigue etc we are going through. xxx

I had the steroid injection for my arthritis in my bum.. Embarrassing put not painful... My consultant retired soon after.. I often wonder if it was the sight of my bum and the feather duster that finished him off

Did the steroids work for you?? I do hope so.

They didn't work for me, but like everything else you won't know til you try it. Just don't put your hopes up. I did and when the second lot fail it failed spectacularly. Was worse of than before i tried them.

Good Luck xxx Yvonne

The rhumey decided that he wanted more blood tests so still have not had the injection. From all of your view points it seems that what suits one person doesn't suit another, a bit like various pain medication.

thanks for your kind thoughts, hope you ar'nt too bad at the moment xxx Wendy
