I am currently receiving contribution based ESA. I got a HC1 form from my dentist. Filled it in then applied for and received a HC2 form, which I take along to dentist, optician and pharmacy. I don't pay for dental treatment, or prescriptions, and I get sight tests for free and a voucher towards new spectacles IF the optician deems a change necessary

I was told that Contribution based ESA with no income related addition is not covered under free prescriptions dentistry eyesight testing etc

I asked at my surgery and said that if its just contribution based ESA that I bad, i had to pay :(

It all depends on your total income. Basically if you get income related, then you don't need HC2, you simply sign the form and get free prescriptions. The HC2 form is means tested, and for people on a low income, whatever source that income might be from. So if your contribution based ESA is your only income and you have no partner, then you can request the HC2 form which gives you the entitlement to free prescriptions and help with dentistry and optical treatment,. Hope that clears things up a bit

It all depends on your total household income as to whether you can claim or not, but if you think you are on a low income then there'd be nothing to lost by applying, they can only say no. I live alone with my son so ESA is my only income

Try oil of cloves on your tooth until you get to see a dentist, or Nux Vomica for the mouth pain if you have any faith in Homoeopathic remedies. If ESA is your only household income, then there's no reason you shouldn't get it. Once your application (HC1) is in, it can take 3 weeks or so to get the HC2, but meanwhile if you are in a lot of pain, you can visit the dentist and get a receipt for your payment. Once HC2 is received, you can send this receipt to them and get a refund.

again good luck

This is all very confusing lol. I'm currently being assessed for ESA but am not very hopeful. Since 2007 i've been on incapacity with severe disablement element, income support and DLA medium rate personal care and low rate mobility. I've had free dental but with regards to glasses, I need a six hundred pound pair every year as the life threatening brain disease and meningitis I suffered in 2007 has really messed up my eyes. Now I've been only getting free eye test and thirty something pounds off my lenses so I've not got any for two years now, is this right? And what will I get IF my ESA goes through or if I have togo on JSA? Also am I right in thinking you get free drug prescriptions if you have Underactive thyroid and are on thyroxine? I know i'm entitled to free at mo but it might be easier and safer to get me a medical exemption certificate with all this going on. Does anyone know how I'd go about doing that? Sorry about all the questions guys XXX
