How to best deal with Cyclogest side effects? Feeling so ill and dejected right now.

I am currently undergoing IVF treatment and am at the progesterone pessary stage (ye gods I hate pessaries).

I always had this hope that a few very annoying side effects is what you get not that I'd start a tick box exercise on the Cyclogest progesterone. Hope this eases off. Been told I need to keep going with things and to just keep an eye as it could get better, stay stable or get more 'fun' yet. Today is definitely worse than yesterday so far. What joy. The night before last I woke up in a panic when I realised my ovaries had obviously enlarged and it harked back to pre-surgery trauma (had endo cysts).

Today is day 5...so my optimism is in the cellar. I know I can take paracetamol and I have peppermint tea pretty much on tap for the bloating and distension. Not much I can do about the occasional shivers apart from blankets and the sore breasts, those I can bear with.

Do you have any tips and things that helped you get through apart from trying to remind yourself why you are doing it?

Today pain has picked up a bit in my abdomen and I feel a bit like I do when the endo for period kicks in. A bit more naauseous too.

I guess I just want to know there is an end to this and I can get through it too.

Thank you. Apologies for the whinging.

When I was on the pessaries it made me feel awful. I was able to go onto the injections instead of the pessaries. I had to stay on the progesterone injections for the remainder of the weeks I had to stay on them. If you had a FET treatment and you become pregnant you need to stay on the hormone tablets and pessaries till you are 12wks.

So there might be injections if it gets too much? That is actually really good to know, thank you.

After speaking to my clinic I have now been told they don't go to 12 weeks anymore even if pregnant. Small mercies, just keeping everything crossed for the pregnancy to take.

I understand how you feeling. I'm on day 5/ 5 day transfer. An all I feel is very sore large aching breast in the mornings especially. An today all I have had is cramps. I agree with you about the odd shivers I get so I'm constantly snuggling up in a blanket. But hold in there because I'm sure it will all ok in the end. Us women are made to get through these things. We are stronger than we think. Keep going and good luck and keeping my fingers crossed for you. Xx

Thank you! I will keep my fingers crossed you feel better soon and it is a complete success for both of us. I think I got my days wrong for counting. Our egg transfer is day 5 and tomorrow. I am losing track. oO Hope you have time to rest some now.

Awe thank you massive hug and stay positive. Xx

Perhaps u can take the pessaries rectally instead? Might have less side effects? Worth discussing with the nurses.

You have put your body through a lot recently, be kind to yourself and take it easy.

Thank you. :) Yes, I can use either option. Had to use rectally before transfer yesterday, still same side effects and was nauseous in the morning. At least the ovarian swelling has gotten less painful today which is a huge relief. I might experiment between the two ways, but it seems they don't make a difference for me symptom wise at first glance.

You are right though, I should just try and be kind and patient with myself right now. It is hard to look at the process and acknowledge that I have done a lot. I always feel I should do more and better...something to think about.

Much appreciated and timely advice.
