Cyclogest side effects

Hi ladies,

I'm currently 8dp5dt and am on 400mg cyclogest twice a day, and it's giving me some awful side effects. I'm getting a lot of bloating and very painful trapped wind, which is keeping me awake at night. My clinic just say it's to be expected and to wait it out, but after getting a BFP on an early test, that might be for the next 12 weeks! Has anyone had the same and found something that helped? I really can't stand peppermint tea, and that's the only other suggestion I've heard.

Am willing to try anything!!

I drink fennel tea as I have IBS. That can really help. I quite like the taste but def not for everyone! I like the Pukka 3 fennel best xx

Thanks Purpledoggy, but that's another taste I really don't like! I'm trying some yoga stretches and drinking lots, but it's just so uncomfortable...!

I had really bad bloating too... Currently 17 weeks pregnant and just stopped cyclogest last week. I was bloated the whole time and now I'm just pregnant-fat.

Gosh, I didn't realise you might need to take it for so long. It's so painful, not sure how I'd handle that...

I only took it for that long because I'm under care of recurrent miscarriage specialist for aggressive nk cells, so don't worry!

I'm sorry to hear about the recurrent miscarriages, and glad that you're doing well so far this time. And thanks for the reassurance!

Hi km307 - I was wondering how you are getting on as I’m really struggling too. I started 5 days ago ( hopefully my transfer today) and I’ve been getting a lot of inflammation , bleeding and pain sitting down! Really bad constipation which I’ve started using. Lactulose for. Was literally crying trying to insert the pessary last night ! The idea of keeping this up 2 x a day for months isn’t very appealing ! Did you find anything that was useful ? Thanks !

I'm sorry you're having such a tough time. I took some lactulose and deflatine (from Rennies) and I found those helped, and actually things started to settle down fairly quickly. I did make some changes to my diet to increase fibre and fluid and found that helped too. Good luck!

Thank you ! Going to up the fibre today and see what happens 👍 hadn’t thought about dietary changes as usually we eat loads of fruit and veg but should add in extra fibre 👍 reassuring that it settled down ! X

Update : it didn’t work and I now have horrendous piles . Seeing my nurse today but I defo can’t tolerate taking the pessary up the back anymore !!! Can’t even sleep I’m in so much pain . Figured I’ve given it my best shot and it will have to be the vagina fr now on risk of thrush / leakage or not 😬

Im so sorry, can you switch to progesterone injections instead? You could do Lubion on the tummy, ask your nurse! Good luck x

Hello km307I hope it all worked out. I have side effects from cyclogest too.

Did you experience any cramping or spotting before your BFP?

Hi, I didn't have any spotting with that cycle, but did have some mild cramping. Unfortunately I lost that pregnancy just before 8 weeks, but have just got a BFP from my first frozen transfer. I've not had the same symptoms on this cycle, but that may be due to low progesterone- I have had to add in lubion injections on top of my pessaries. I would almost prefer the abdominal issues as I think that indicates better progesterone levels...

Thank you, km307. That is reassuring.I was thinking the abdominal issues may harm pregnancy chances, but maybe not.

Congratulations!!!🎉

(I had a BFP from my fully natural cycle in Feb, but lost it in March at 6weeks.)
