Another FET gone wrong? Bleeding on progynova...

Hi everyone,

We’re in the middle of our fourth FET cycle and I’m thinking this one is going tits up like the previous ones...

For our previous 3 FET cycles I’ve had breakthrough bleeding when taking progynova. My clinic have been surprised each time, increased my progynova dose to 10mg and added in 100mg patches (every 3 days), even going to 150mg patches on the last one and still my lining only just got there, and each FET has been unsuccessful.

This time we’ve downregged with buserelin, had no bleeding during that time, a period came, had my baseline, started the oestrogen (tablets and patches) and the bleeding just hasn’t gone away yet. It’s gone really light but it’s still really fresh blood, just like with previous times.

Has anyone had problems with the oestrogen tablets or patches and breakthrough bleeding? It’s listed as a possible side effect but my clinic seem to be stumped each time it happens and just up the dose. We even stopped treatment for a few months to investigate, have a hysteroscopy etc. to rule out any issues (we have male factor infertility) and came back all clear.

I just don’t want it be stuck in a never ending cycle of cancelled or just scraping through FETs, which will never succeed?!

We’ve had one pregnancy from a fresh cycle which ended in a mmc at 7 weeks.

Any advice / experience appreciated xXx

I has break through everytime i used patches! Removed the patches from my protocol and just stuck to 3x progynova day and thats always worked for, for some reason the patches don't agree with me xx

Thank you for your reply. It’s good to know I’m not the only one out there - it’s not easy to find much online. Unfortunately the bleeding started when I was just on the tablets, and they added the patches after, so I’m wondering if it’s the tablets that don’t agree with me... bizarre!

How did you go? I know this is an old thread but I was bleeding on progynova so my doctor upped it and I kept bleeding so he said to stop taking it and wait for the bleeding to stop .. but it's now been 4 weeks and it hasn't stopped. I've also had constant dull cramping and daily sharp pains that leave me unable to move.

Any experiences or advice?

Hi there, not a particularly helpful answer I'm afraid but we never really got down to the bottom of it. After another FET failed, my clinic referred me to an implantation specialist to see if they can do more tests, investigations etc. to see if there's something else going on.

Bearing in mind this post was a year ago, I think the last transfer we attempted was in November last year which was another BFN and I have been on no medication since then. The spotting continued and it is only in the last few months that the spotting has finally got better. I'm still having an extended period but no longer have random spotting in the second half of my cycle. I did have acupuncture for a while to see if that would help but obviously had to stop that in March so I don't know if that had a chance to contribute.

In my opinion, I think that doing a lot of yoga, meditation and being less anxious (I went part-time in January to start yoga teacher training) has finally helped to get my hormones back on track. At the very least they're heading back in the right direction. All in all, I'd had the on and off spotting for well over a year so I can't be sure whether it was caused by the progynova or by the miscarriage (and surgery), or by anxiety.

Sorry not to be more helpful and I hope your spotting stops too. It's frustrating how little we know about how our bodies work! xx
