I’m now almost 5 weeks post op

Hi all, I had my laparoscopy on 17th July where superficial widespread endometriosis was excised (everything they could see) and ended up with post op ileus so had an extended stay in hospital after my surgery. I’m now almost 5 weeks post op and my pain is still so severe and debilitating at points and I’ve spent 16 nights in hospital post surgery. To top it off I’ve now started my first period since the operation where they also took out and replaced my mirena coil. I’m feeling hot and cold constantly, can barely eat a children’s meal at meal times and just generally feeling run down.

I’ve started taking dienogest which they prescribed in hospital after I had a bad reaction to amitryptaline and I just don’t know what to do. I’m taking regular paracetamol, ibuprofen, codeine and oramorph which isn’t touching the pain and even scalding hot water bottles aren’t doing anything. I’m also struggling with sleep, either I can’t get to sleep or I’m up every half an hour. Is any of this side effects of dienogest? It’s the only new thing I’m taking other than ducosate for constipation caused by all the painkillers (I’ve had ducosate previously and didn’t have anything like this)

Has anyone else had this, does anyone have any suggestions? I really appreciate any help <3

hi

This sounds dreadful. Are you sure you don’t have an infection? Have the hospital checked this?

Hey,

This sounds horrible, so sorry you're experinecing this.

Unfortunately, a lot of what you've described could be the dienogest: anxiety/depression, hot flushes, insomnia and when first started can cause cramping and pain.

But in your case you're feeling hot and cold, loss of appetite, increase in abdominal pain and feeling generally unwell. It sounds like you could have, or be developing an infection - I would definitely call the ward that did your surgery or call your GP with these symptoms ASAP.

If you actually have a temperature, I would present at A&E.

Not what you're looking for?
