Endo detection after surgery

Hi. I was just wondering when/how people who had surgery realised they still had endo in their bodies?

I just had a laproscopy on May 3 and recovering fairly well. I can feel my next menstrual cycle starting and am feeling much of the same pain that I did before. It is not the surgical pain, but rather the symptoms I've had for years, including lower back pain, feeling exhausted etc.

Surgical pain and endo pain feel very different.

I understand the surgeon might not have seen all of the endo— he said he was confident he'd removed it all.

But I'm curious to know how your first menstrual cycle felt after surgery? Or when most people realised they still had some endo after surgery?

My current menstrual/flare-up cycle is:

3rd Wednesday of the month: Severe endo pain for 2-3 Days

Friday: Period commences and lasts 12-15 days with varying degrees of endo flare-up

Last day of period & 2 days post-period: SEVERE endo pain.

Hey, my first couple of periods after felt better but not 100%, the next two were absolutely horrific and incredibly painful. The next 2 after that I had minor pain on the first day then absolutely nothing, just felt a bit tired. I normally had really bad pain, back ache, nausea but that had all gone. It felt so much better that I actually forgot I was on my period for those two cycles! Waiting to see how cycle 7 will turn out. My surgeon did say it can take up to 6 months to see a difference. I have stage 3 endo. So It may be it will take some time to see the effect. I had my op end of oct 23 and my follow up is in june 24 so i dont know if there is still endo left. I really hope you get some relief from the pain x

You should be recommended to have a check up 6 months after surgery. Ask your consultant for a EndoSure Test, it's non invasive and can detect if you still have endometriosis.

Thank you the website says it’s only used for research purposes rather than clinical. Such a shame if that’s the case could be such a game changer for women like us. Also doesn’t appear to be available in the UK.

I don't think that's true. I'm having my treatment private in the UK and it's been used on me for clinical and not research purposes. Maybe it's not available through the NHS, if you have it done privately it will cost around £400-£500.

My treatment was also private but I had been diagnosed by the time I got to them. Great to know though as I will definitely look into it for reassurance my disease has completely gone after surgery.

Thanks for the replies.
