I was diagnosed in July with stage 4 endo/adeno, bilateral endometriomas and a frozen pelvis, large ovarian cysts, enlarged falopian tubes following MRI and various ultrasounds. I have been on prostrop since, while on the waiting list for surgery. Last month I received a call from the endo nurse saying that the MDT had reviewed my case and they didn't think I needed the colorectacal surgeon and had expedited my surgery (18 months wait to 3 months) for hysterectomy, salpingo-oopherectomy, bowel shave and excision of endo. I have just received a pre Op assessment appointment for 2 weeks time but no date for surgery.Does anyone know how long it usually is between the assessment and surgery as I need to plan and prepare. I've only had minor surgeries before so wasn't expecting a pre op assessment, can anyone let me know what to expect, questions I should be asking and any tips to prepare for surgery, the letter said it could take 3 hrs! This has been a long time coming and can't come soon enough but I'm a tad nervous and keen to make sure I do things right.

Pre Op assessment
hey!
I’m glad to hear you’ve been listened to and have a surgery in the timeline. It could be possible you’ll receive a date soon, I received my surgery date before my pre op assessment as the pre op I believe needs to be quite recent before the surgery. So I had a telephone call to offer me a surgery date, 2 weeks later I had the pre op and then the surgery 2 weeks after that.
I’m not sure if it’s the same where you are however I’m sure your pre op needs to be up to date as close to the surgery as possible so you could expect a date in the near future. I hope this helps! Maybe give the consultant secretary you’re under a call and just enquire regarding it
Call the appointment line at your hospital x
Hi ,I know exactly how you feel needing to know to prepare.I had my pre op end of November and waited and waited for a call with a date that I was told so many times would be 'very soon'. I rang and chased so many times but they only booked me in for beg of march as my pre op was nearly out. This was Birmingham Women's Hospital. Hope you have a shorter wait than me x
Can I ask what does a pre-op assessment involve? Do they run tests/scans, or it it merely a prep-talk with the doctor(s) involved?
My understanding is its with a nurse and they take bloods, blood pressure, height, weight and go through any prescriptions to make sure you are fit for surgery. It's not with the surgeon and they don't do scans.
I had a pre op with questions over the phone then went in for bloods, blood pressure check, height and weight and an ECG. I wasn't expecting the ECG as hadn't had in previous pre ops. I was given a booklet with info on fasting etc before op x
ECG seems like a new addition! I hope all goes well for you in March. I'm guessing then that pre-op assessments are valid for about 6 months?
