I’m doing the pre-op assessment right now and it’s a lot to take in hehe. I thought it was pretty simple and straight forward. Didn’t expect all the extra steps. But it makes sense since I have severe endo and the lap will have the colon doctor as well as urologist.

Hope all went well
When's your date for surgery?
What sort of questions did you have?
I had pretty run of the mill questions last week and Bloods, ecg, etc today.
I had some questions but the nurse couldn’t answer them. I didn’t feel that there’s communication between the departments. Te pre-op was at the outpatient and not the gynae department.
But they checked blood, ecg, urine, etc. And gave directions on how to prepare and showering with a special body wash for 5 days before surgery, as well as all the cleansing products for the bowel.
Overall, it felt that the lap is more complex than what Was explained initially. And there’s a lot of it depends how things o during the surgery.
Many thanks. I was told I didn’t need bowel prep, the nurse said that technology has superseded this part the other week. I’ve just added a post querying what I’ve been told.
I had the practical bits yesterday, but they can’t give any answers.
It’s hard to tell what’s what with endo, even with scans, it needs a visual. Hopefully they will come up with a more suitable solution. I am intrigued as to what’s going on though.
How are you feeling about it in general?
Ohh, interesting that they told you no need for bowel prep. I was given a bowel prep to take the day before and this juice to speed recovery of the bowel in case they need to operate on the bowel. I guess if she didn’t explain you why it isn’t needed it’s hard to understand it.
Yes, they don’t give clear answers. I get it but it doesn’t make me feel at ease not knowing exactly what will happen. It’s a lot based on us trusting everything blindly, but I feel that nowadays no one will want to just blindly trust the system.
In general... I don’t actually feel comfortable with everything because we just get to meet the whole team on the day of the surgery, which is probably not the most comfortable day. I wish we had the opportunity to meet the team before then so we’re comfortable with it. And having a very clear idea of what is meant to happen would make it easier as well.
Good luck on your journey to lap as well. When is your surgery?
I understand completely where you are coming from in what they do. When I had lap the people there who put you under seemed really nice, but from then on you haven’t a clue who’s doing what. This will be a second op on Tuesday. Currently self-isolating.
