Late period after laparoscopy

I had my laparoscopy two weeks ago, they found endo and a load of adhesions so performed diathermy.

My period is now 4 days late. I did a pregnancy test at the hospital before the op.

Did anyone else experience a late period after surgery?

They told me the first period after the surgery would be bad but they didn’t say it would be late.

Hi there,

Don’t worry it’s totally fine. Back in April i had a laparoscopy wasn’t told anything period related for after laparoscopy. However i started getting worried like yourself as i was 1 week late. But then i was told it’s completely normal as i’ve had a surgery and stress related etc. After a week it came but it was very bad & painful which that is also expected.

Thanks! Silly bodies and stress. Sod’s law is that it’ll come on when I go back to work and it’ll be awful.

Did your periods get better after the first one?

its always the case coming on badly when back to work. So my first period after lap was horrible but then i never had anymore as am in the pill now to manage my endo which also isn’t working.

Oh no. Does that mean you’re not getting periods but still all the pain?

Bloody annoying. I don’t understand that. So frustrating as the doctors say if you stop mensuration you stop the endo inflammation. Grrrrr

Same here! I got diagnosed in December 2021, stage 4 Endo, diathermy and then I waited for the dreaded period and it didn’t come. If I remember correctly what did come eventually was totally fine and light and then my next one was back to being heavy again xx

My first period was on time (10 days after excision surgery) started by spotting which I don’t usually have and BAM pain like I’ve never felt before, so yes the first period was super painful, the 3 periods after that were reduced pain compared to before surgery - definitely not life affecting and the 5th period was a dream!! I even forgot I was on my period as I had zero pain. I have read that in can take 3-6 cycles to heal x

When people say the first period is bad.. how bad are we talking? A lot worse than the period pain with Endo?
