Hi everyone, I am almost 2 weeks post lap, with endo removed.
My question is, how was your first period after surgery? I came on a couple of days ago and the pain has been horrific, I’m also bleeding heavily. Is this normal and did it get better after this for you?
My surgeon also said I have adenomyosis, so I’m worried that I’ll feel little benefit from the endo removal due to this.
Thanks x

Hi, I don't have adenomyosis only endo but my first period was also awful especially for the first 2 days then got a bit better, you're still healing internally so give yourself time. I've had 3 periods since my lap, and they overall are better and more manageable than before the operation (and now have completely stopped because of my pill dienogest). I was also given stronger meds post-op which helped me a lot through the first couple of periods and found that my period post-op was shorter, only lasted 6-7 days when normally it lasts about 10 days. Wishing you all the best x
That’s reassuring! I’ve read such mixed things about the first period after a lap, but it makes sense that it would be painful with the internal healing!
Glad your symptoms have improved following surgery xx
No I haven’t, I’m hoping to have some sort of relief from the surgery but this first period after is unbearable! Hopefully as time goes on it’ll get easier. I have a follow up with the surgeon in three months he will probably suggest something if not xxx
I used my stronger pain medication from after surgery to manage my first period and it was an absolute godsend. I’ve since been advised from one of the anesthetists I work with to stagger my medication when im having a flare up/period/ovulation pain. They advised to take paracetemol then 2 hours later take ibuprofen/naproxen and then use Codeine for breakthrough pain when requited and it helps having continually pain relief. Not sure if this will help but definitely worth a try x
Hi I’ve been using the cocodamol but it’s not been easing it for me unfortunately.
That sounds like a really good idea with the staggered meds, I will definitely try that. I was prescribed naproxen but without the stomach protector tablet (sorry can’t remember the name) and ended up having a really sore stomach afterwards (unsurprisingly). Then when I took the stomach protector and naproxen together I still got the same feeling… do you have to take the stomach protector one for a while before taking the naproxen for it to take effect? I’m just really scared of taking it, but it would be good alongside with the cocodamol x
My first period post lap was awful (I also had adenomysis that wasn't removed). The pain wasn't too bad but bled really heavily. The last two have improved and I've not had any pain and just one unreasonably heavy day
