Hi all,

So I'm now 13 days post full hysterectomy and removal of endo and apart from a sore buttock I'm feeling the best I've felt in a long time ๐Ÿฅณ I cant believe what a difference it's made, I'm still taking the odd paracetamol and blood thinners (only 2wks left of them!) but apart from that I'm off all meds!! I'm so happy that I kept to my guns and didnt keep anything. Good luck to anyone about to have surgery xx

Great to hear youโ€™re feeling so much better. Iโ€™m having a hysterectomy one week tomorrow and Iโ€™m petrified. I know itโ€™s the right thing to do, but still, just feel anxious about the op, anything else they may find and recovery (more really to do with the HRT and how my mood will be).

Hi, good luck with ur op u will be fine, my op ended up taking over 7hrs so I've found the bruises and sores on my back the most painful which I wasn't expecting at all! That's the bit I've struggled more with as it's been so uncomfortable to sit and lay, but I'm not able to sleep in bed ๐Ÿ˜ all I would say is take ur time and do everything slowly, I was a bit worried about going in on my own but the staff were lovely, things to make sure u take with u is definitely a bottle with a straw as u will be really thirst, a lot of people say big knickers but I found wearing they under my stitches was more comfortable, my surgeon did say about me leaving part of my left ovary but after finding out I may need surgery again between 1-5years I said no take it all! I am on HRT which I've been on for 2yrs anyway due to being on the decapeptyl injections, if u would like to know anything else please just ask xx

So no HRT? Iโ€™ve had different opinions from gynaes on whether to take everything out or not.

Hi, Yes sorry I'm on HRT (due to my age) and have been for over 2years due to being on the decapeptyl injections prior to surgery. I would say it's up to u at this end of the day, its ur body and ur the one who's got to go through it, mine did say about leaving part of my left ovary but when I asked how long before I would need surgery again and they said 1-5years (if I'm lucky) I just said take it all out! If I can help with anything else please ask xx

Hi pure unicorn,

Iโ€™m glad your recovering well. Did you have a laparoscopy. I had just my ovaries removed and a left Fallopian tube. Plus stage 4 endo recto vaginal. But I had a sore bum and lower back. It could be the position they put you in theatre.

Iโ€™m pleased your doing so well. Iโ€™ve never felt better since my surgery. Even after apart from uncomfortable at surgical sites there was big improvement. I am on HRT. Very relieved. I wish you well.

Hi Chicken2012, Thank you for your message, yes all done through keyhole ๐Ÿ˜ everything out and removal for stage 4 endo, I had a rectovaginal shave which I think was the bit they were worried about! Yes they said the bruises and sores was due to how I was positioned (head down for over 7hrs not great ๐Ÿ˜‚) but I think people should be more aware of this cos it was a complete surprise and something I wasn't expecting to have!

I'm glad ur surgery went well and that u are feeling much better xx

I was so pleased to have made that decision. I changed surgeons as one wanted to do open surgery Iโ€™m glad I did as the other surgeon found the recto vaginal endo. Itโ€™s been life changing so far. I stopped my injections and had a large cyst and Fallopian tube went into torsion.I know from talking to you , you had a hard time.

I'm so pleased it all worked out for u too ๐Ÿ˜Š yes it's been a struggle but so worth it! I think we always need to look on the positive side, I know this is hard sometimes but I'm definitely a believer of staying positive, and another positive no more smear tests ๐Ÿฅณ x

That is positive , Iโ€™m now doing a lot more. The benefits after 3 months are amazing.

Hi Chicken2012,

Can I ask how long before u were able to drive, go bk to work full time and just do everything normally? I've got a sick note for 6wks but my specialist said I can ask my gp for another one if needed, but I'm hoping that I can at least be bk at work even if not full time.

Thanks x

Hi every one is different I took 4 weeks off, originally surgeon said 2. But you have had your uterus removed so bigger surgery . 7 hours in surgery so I would say see how you are in 5 weeks. I do not work full time although Iโ€™m a nurse on 12 hour shifts but did a 7,5 hr day. My first day back was lucky too many staff and caught up on study. I didnโ€™t drive for 2 weeks due to being sore, but I do not think there is advice on driving , apart from an emergency stop. Get plenty of rest.

If you find at any point that going to the toilet is uncomfortable due to dryness try sea buckthorn oil supplements as they worked for me.

I use these as well. I thought I would stop them to save money and noticed the difference!

Thank you will keep that in mind, I've been taking lactose as I've got to be careful due to having stitches ๐Ÿ˜ฌ x

Iโ€™m presuming you mean lactulose? Thatโ€™s for constipation, Iโ€™ve had that in the past, i now use magnesium supplements, a game changer.

Hi I'm glad you're doing well ๐Ÿ’— I'm now 5 months on from full hysterectomy for endo I feel really good it was the best decision I've ever made . I had 12 weeks off work but I'm on my feet all day and there's a lot of lifting I didn't want to rush back ... I had a small prolapse as well but now I can manage a car journey (of at least an hour and a half)and have a coffee before I leave ๐Ÿ˜… and not have to dive in a Bush ๐Ÿ™ˆ my consultant and I decided to see how I go without hrt up to now I've been fine the odd hot sweat but nothing else I do take a calcium supplement ๐Ÿคžthat's all I need .. good luck with the rest of your journey ๐Ÿฅฐ

Hi Earthchild69, Yes I had both my ovaries out, they did say about me leaving part of my left one, but when I asked how long before I would need more surgery and they said 1-5years if I'm lucky I said take it all out!! Recovery is going well thanku, I've not felt this good in ages, I did over do it the other day so I've had some spotting so I just need to remember to take it easy!! I think we all know our bodies, I know that they are specialists but I think we should have a say too, after all its us who have to go through it all!

I hope u are doing better now as it sounds like you've had a crap time with it all xx
