Hi all , I’m just wondering if anyone in the uk has recently paid private for a laparoscopy ?

If so , how much did it cost and how long did you have to wait for a surgery date ?

Thanks

Tina

I need to dig out the paper work somewhere, but I had my laparoscopy done Aug 2023. I had insurance through my work - which you could get yourself potentially, and if you haven’t got a diagnosis yet, it will be covered under the insurance. We had an excess of £100 I had to pay, but the £250 initial consultation was covered, diagnostic lap and removal of endometriosis! I had my first appointment June 2023, and they tried to give me a date in July 2023 but I had to push it back a month as I didn’t expect to get something so soon! It took me 16 years to get diagnosed and I was already on the NHS waitlist for 2 years at that point! I think it was about £2k for everything but I’ll dig out the insurance docs and confirm!

Hi Andrea247, Thankyou so much for your reply , I’ve already had a diagnosis of endometriosis back in 2018 via a laparoscopy and I work for the nhs , so have no private healthcare through my employer

It’s nice to know the wait is pretty quick though 👍

Thanks Tina x

hi I had my lap done in August this year. The surgery cost me £8000 and I had my appendix removed, endometriosis from my uterus actual ligaments and a few other places as well. I am currently paying it off over the next 18 months I think it is.

I was diagnosed in February and had it in auagust. I could have had the surgery in May but I was on holiday. Was then scheduled for July but was ill so ended up having it in August

Hi comedykid , wow that’s a lot of money !!!

I had an Mri done about 7 weeks ago on the nhs so my consultant knows the extent of the endometriosis , I haven’t been given the results yet , but I’ve got an appointment booked with him privately on the 15th of November , so I should get a price when I see him

Thanks Tina x

It was but I had two surgeons due to their being the appendix and bowel involvement so that put the cost up unfortunately. Before that I had two appointments with the consultant which the first was £220 and the second £170 and I had an MrI done on the NahS which they said was clear, the private consultant’s team reviewed it and said I had endo - this was free for me luckily.

I think my op may be more than others because it included if there were any follow up scans that were needed and blood tests however normally that isn’t the case and if you needed an extra scan after it would cost you more on top of the surgery, I didn’t have this worry with mine.

Yeah I think the price very my depends on the extent of the endo and whether other organs are involved, if there are no other organs involved and therefore don’t need another specialist there then the price will be much less ☺️

Hope it goes well :) x

I went private in may 2022. Bupa through work. £150 excess. I waited around a MTH for surgery but for dates that suited me. I had excision surgery. Was about 4000 . All in. Then I had further follow ups and an MRI.

I had private surgery in January, although I am super fortunate to have health insurance through work that paid for mine. It cost around £5000 for surgery all in (including in-patient costs for 3 nights, specialist endo nurse etc). I had to wait 7 months for surgery.

I had mine through a Spire hospital with very experienced advanced laparoscopy trained endo specialist and it cost £200 for initial consult and then a month from that initial consultation I was in for surgery! I’d had MRI on NHS too prior.

It cost £7000ish and we spread it 0% over 10 months. Mine involved excision of severe rectovaginal endo and pelvic walls/ovarian fossa, ureterolysis and had a night in hospital and a follow up appt included in that.

Best money we’ve ever spent - my DH agrees too . Quality of life for me and therefore both of us vastly improved. Really hope you get something soon and relief xx

Hi endofitall, thanks for your reply , I can’t believe so many of us have gone/ going privately for answers and relief !!!

It’s sad that we get to the point where we simply can’t take anymore pain and suffering and we have to pay when we should be getting it on the nhs 😡😡😡

I’m glad you’re having better quality of life now

Hopefully I will too soon enough and the wait isn’t long

If you do go private make sure they are BSGE approved/Nancy Nook specialist. Best of luck 👍🏼

Hello. I have since had 2 endometrial ablations for heavy bleeding, also anaemia, severe bloating for months on end, sure it’s my adenomyosis flare up that’s lasting forever. X

I had adhesions separated from cervix to bowel and from upper bowel to stomach wall and endo ablated from uterosacral ligaments and right pelvic wall i also had endo in pouch of douglas. I had 3 month mild symptoms after (I'd had severe pelvic pain for 18month prior and gaslit from my local NHS despite 5 hospital admission in 12month they said it wasn't gynae everytime) after the 3 month my pain is now bak to wat it was previously along with new symptoms I didn't have before. I don't have the energy for daily activities and often pass out. Iv lost my job in this time too x

Smiley2022 in reply toRedCat24

Hi Redcat , Omg I’m so sorry 🤗

I know what you mean about being gaslit , it’s disgusting isn’t it that doctors etc don’t take us seriously

I think the problem lies in the fact that they leave us women too long without treatment / investigations and then our endo gets worse and spreads and then causes issues with our bowels etc then they try to palm us off saying it’s a bowel etc etc problem !!!

Thing is if they did there job in the first place and listened to us from the start about our issues we wouldn’t have problems else where in our bodies

What’s your next step ? More investigations.

Big hugs

Tina xx🤗🤗❤️

I couldn't afford to stay private so I'm currently on the waiting list to see gynaecology out of my town but iv been on the list almost a year, I'm dealing with symptoms alone and constantly on at my GP they keep asking for expedites but there refusing 😩. Hope your symptoms are manageable

Love to you too x

Hi again

I can’t believe they’re making you wait for an appointment !! It’s disgusting 😡😡😡

Obviously Something isn’t right Inside you

Hope you get some answers soon 🤞🤞

I know it is disappointing they keep refusing to bring appointment forward, I know there's people worse off but I just want some help getting my quality of life back 😢

Iv at least another 3 month until I'm offered an appointment so it's going to be far into next year.

My GP has been amazing and so supportive, he knew it was endo even wen i was being told it wasn't 💛

My figures are a bit sqiffy as include an MRI, and the diagnoses - plus two consultants/surgeons as I need my appendix and section of colon removed. I was lucky enough to have Vitality insurance to cover this cost. As I expected to be in hospital for one or two nights - yet ended up being there for 6.

My invoices overall show a figure just under 11.5k. Which would be a shock if I had attempted to self fund and expected something lower. So questions if I was going privately myself would include asking what happens of the surgery ends up being more extensive than first thought. As I wouldn't want the surgery to be cut short to fit a bill - but I'd also want to be prepared.

Hi Cheesygirl

Thanks for the heads up!!

I will definately ask these questions when I see my consultant as I live alone only work part time so simply cannot afford a high figure as that

Thanks again
