Hi all , I’m just wondering if anyone in the uk has recently paid private for a laparoscopy ?
If so , how much did it cost and how long did you have to wait for a surgery date ?
Thanks
Tina

I need to dig out the paper work somewhere, but I had my laparoscopy done Aug 2023. I had insurance through my work - which you could get yourself potentially, and if you haven’t got a diagnosis yet, it will be covered under the insurance. We had an excess of £100 I had to pay, but the £250 initial consultation was covered, diagnostic lap and removal of endometriosis! I had my first appointment June 2023, and they tried to give me a date in July 2023 but I had to push it back a month as I didn’t expect to get something so soon! It took me 16 years to get diagnosed and I was already on the NHS waitlist for 2 years at that point! I think it was about £2k for everything but I’ll dig out the insurance docs and confirm!
hi I had my lap done in August this year. The surgery cost me £8000 and I had my appendix removed, endometriosis from my uterus actual ligaments and a few other places as well. I am currently paying it off over the next 18 months I think it is.
I was diagnosed in February and had it in auagust. I could have had the surgery in May but I was on holiday. Was then scheduled for July but was ill so ended up having it in August
Hi comedykid , wow that’s a lot of money !!!
I had an Mri done about 7 weeks ago on the nhs so my consultant knows the extent of the endometriosis , I haven’t been given the results yet , but I’ve got an appointment booked with him privately on the 15th of November , so I should get a price when I see him
Thanks Tina x
It was but I had two surgeons due to their being the appendix and bowel involvement so that put the cost up unfortunately. Before that I had two appointments with the consultant which the first was £220 and the second £170 and I had an MrI done on the NahS which they said was clear, the private consultant’s team reviewed it and said I had endo - this was free for me luckily.
I think my op may be more than others because it included if there were any follow up scans that were needed and blood tests however normally that isn’t the case and if you needed an extra scan after it would cost you more on top of the surgery, I didn’t have this worry with mine.
Yeah I think the price very my depends on the extent of the endo and whether other organs are involved, if there are no other organs involved and therefore don’t need another specialist there then the price will be much less ☺️
Hope it goes well x
I went private in may 2022. Bupa through work. £150 excess. I waited around a MTH for surgery but for dates that suited me. I had excision surgery. Was about 4000 . All in. Then I had further follow ups and an MRI.
I had private surgery in January, although I am super fortunate to have health insurance through work that paid for mine. It cost around £5000 for surgery all in (including in-patient costs for 3 nights, specialist endo nurse etc). I had to wait 7 months for surgery.
I had mine through a Spire hospital with very experienced advanced laparoscopy trained endo specialist and it cost £200 for initial consult and then a month from that initial consultation I was in for surgery! I’d had MRI on NHS too prior.
It cost £7000ish and we spread it 0% over 10 months. Mine involved excision of severe rectovaginal endo and pelvic walls/ovarian fossa, ureterolysis and had a night in hospital and a follow up appt included in that.
Best money we’ve ever spent - my DH agrees too . Quality of life for me and therefore both of us vastly improved. Really hope you get something soon and relief xx
Hi endofitall, thanks for your reply , I can’t believe so many of us have gone/ going privately for answers and relief !!!
It’s sad that we get to the point where we simply can’t take anymore pain and suffering and we have to pay when we should be getting it on the nhs 😡😡😡
I’m glad you’re having better quality of life now
Hopefully I will too soon enough and the wait isn’t long
