5 days post op - symptoms...

...sorry to be posting again but just wondering if anyone knows more about all this. Like, how long it takes for the anaesthetic to leave the body etc?

I feel weird today, worse even. I've been shattered the whole time but today I've been feeling sick, really dizzy and sore - very light headed and faint. Is this normal 5 days after op? My incisions look like they're healing okay too I think.

I also had something odd happened which has happened to me only once in my life and it was when I went in to shock when my Dad died suddenly - it was like my body shut down and everything wanted to come out :S That happened today only I was able to stop myself from being sick, but only just.

Does this all sounds normal??

Hi, I too am five days post op after a Laproscopy and have felt so so bizarre. Unbelievably low mood, emotional and very paranoid/sensitive. It is a huge journey for our bodies not to mention our minds, the journey and battle just to get to surgery is overwhelming and exhausting allow yourself proper recovery time and do not expect too much too soon.

Sleep, relax and just trust your instincts. All anaesthetics and opiates (pain relief) will alter brain chemicals and collide with hormones along the way I am sure.

See it as a temporary transition and don't let it worry you too much

Sending strength

Hi Hun, it is still early days and yes it is a huge shock to both body and mind. So be gentle on yourself.

Do you have a temperature at all?

If so it might be worth getting checked out just be on the safe side Incase you have a slight infection.

Hope you're ok.

@Buttoon

Call dr .

Your blood pressure could be to low.

Or your doing to much and your body wants you to slow down.

Still call dr

Thanks guys, have woken up still feeling really lightheaded and weird. I did have very low blood pressure straight after op but mine is always on the lower side plus that was probably as I'd not eaten all day.

I'm still at Mum's, not sure if she has means of taking my temp but will ask when she's up. Still having really weird hot sweats and then freezing cold afterwards - so odd.

Aaaaaaaaand - the period pains have kicked in this morning :'( I thought a week after op, I'd be fine by now!!

Is low blood pressure something that'll sort itself out?

Hi, I'm the same my op was 3 weeks ago unfortunately I was't told to take time off said 3 days would be fine but I've felt flu like symptoms, very tired and bleeding since. I would take more time to rest make sure you eat fresh food and plenty of fruit and veg. I also drank a defence tea and a took metatone which is a tonic drink which really helps when feeling down, or after illness.

Take care

I'm 8days after my procedure and I feel so tired and still in alot of pain. I think it can take quite a while to get back to some normality but very important to rat and drink plenty and to ensure you rest .

I'm on day 17 after a laparoscopy and hysteroscipy, where they treated mild endometriosis. I am quite shocked by how long it is taking me to recover, I don't feel like I was well prepared for how poorly I would feel. I went back to work on day 12, which was probably about right for me (I only work three days a week) but I'm still tireder than usual, still have some pain and feel very 'low' and depressed. I definitely don't have an infection but I did vomit and have low blood pressure after the general anaesthetic. From what I can tell, I am having a normal recovery, but it is so much more difficult than either I or my husband expected. I think that the nhs guidance could be much clearer about just how poorly this type of procedure makes you feel!

Hi, sorry to hear you've been suffering :( Totally agree though, I wasn't warned at all. In fact, I was told it'd be a day jobby and only found out half an hour before I went under that it was in fact major surgery and I'd be staying in hospital. The surgeon wasn't happy that I'd not been told. Also, discharge was literally handing me a piece of paper and paracetamol and ibuprofen - that was it. Nothing else. I think they could have maybe warned me that it'd take an while to recover as I wasn't expecting this at all. It's effected my work too - I have three jobs which I juggle so it hasn't been easy. Me trying to rest and recover, all whilst having job worries on my mind :(

When I came in, i was told I'd be going home after the procedure in two to three hours. Hubby heard this and so when he hadn't heard from me 3 1/2 hours after the procedure he was v worried! At that point I was lying on my hospital bed, unable to get up and reach my phone, let alone go home! I probably should have been in overnight, even though it was a morning procedure, as it took me 11 hours to recover from the anaesthetic but I was really determined to go home as it was impossible to sleep on the ward. Discharge for me was then telling me at 8pm that I should have had more paracetamol at six and me saying, I'll take some at home, and leaving before they noticed I was about to vomit!

To be fair, I think I was just unlucky with my reaction to the general anaesthetic, but they definitely gave me the impression I'd be back at work within the week so I wouldn't need a sick note... cue a trip to the gp five days later! And I don't think I would have give back to work if I wasn't part time as I knew I could handle 3 days but I definitely wouldn't have the energy for a week!!

Oh gosh, poor you!! I am 11 days post op and today is the FIRST day where I've felt more normal. Think I might be able to drive tomorrow, still get a little faint/dizzy now and then but before it was constant. I had no idea I'd be feeling this out of it for so long!

I was so upset when I found out I'd be staying in over night - but when I came round from the op and the rest of the evening - I couldn't move/was drifting in and out of sleep and I was SO grateful that I didn't have to go anywhere! Plus I had a catheter fitted, which again I was nervous about but then really appreciated as I was drinking water like it was going out of fashion but didn't have the need to get up for the loo so it meant I could just sleep/rest for hours. It has been a proper shock to the system! x
