I had an appointment with my GP today after I rung up on Friday about the pain I was experiencing 10 days post lap & having a Mirena coil fitted.
Yesterday I had the worst pain I’d ever had in my life along with bleeding. It was like a sharp stabbing pain that started in my crotch and went all through my nerves to my feet and back.
The GP now believes my body is rejecting the Mirena or it has dislodged and that’s what causing the pain, as otherwise my incisions are healing as expected! She also checked my post op report they produced which literally had one sentence saying they’d removed endometriosis. I now have to have an urgent ultrasound to see what’s happened to the coil.
I’m so annoyed that if I hadn’t have had the Mirena fitted I would have been okay to go back to work, but I have now been signed off for another two weeks and given more painkillers to take!
Did anyone else experience similar after having a coil fitted?
Thank you

Hello Sorry that you are having a rough time. Yes I found the first 3 months of having the coil in the worst time of my life for pain. I was struggling with pain from endo etc anyways but this literally amplified my pain and cramping tenfold! I had non stop bleeding for 76 days and I felt like I was going to pass out when the cramping started as I could feel the pain in my toes. It started to subside slightly by the 6 month mark and now I’m at a year it has helped a lot. Next to no bleeding and when I do have cramps they are much milder in comparison. It just took a looonnnggg time to settle. I had my lap two weeks ago too and the surgeon wanted to take it out and replace it as they needed to remove some fibroids. I had a complete meltdown about starting again with it. They just left this one in place.
Thank you, that sounds exactly like my pain! I have never felt anything like it, and nothing helped either! I hope you are healing well after your lap!
I’m 2 weeks post lap too and like your self my belly button healing is frustrating me, it’s still quite red in places and doesn’t look particularly robust and now my stitches are starting to fall out. My other wounds are great. They did tell me the belly button takes a lot longer. Mines been leaking fluid for a week but it’s not infected. X
Hi Dalmatian girl , I’m 17days post lap and had the mirena fitted at the same time, I feel like I’ve been fortunate, I’ve had some random sharp episodes of pain albeit only for minutes at a time and I stopped bleeding within 4 days of surgery. And my planned period hasn’t turned up either. I was on the pill before and I was advised to continue taking it for the next 3 months. I was also told that rejection and it moving were a risk.
I’m sorry your in this situation, I hope you get sorted out swiftly and continue healing.
It often feels like one retched thing after another with endo x
