I was wondering if you got the mirena coil fitted, how long does the cramping last? I have endo and polycystic ovaries and got the coil fitted on Monday and the cramps feels like day 1 of my period. I get cramps during the day and at night. I’ve been taking co cocodamol and ibuprofen tablets as well as using a hot water bottle but the pain isn’t dying.
Also did the mirena help with endo symptoms?

Hey 👋🏻 sorry you’re struggling with cramping with the Mirena. I had my first Mirena in 2007, 3 days before I got married. It was fine and settled quickly and I did have cramping and you can imagine how freaked out I was that it wouldn’t work into my honeymoon!! Anyway, I have had 3 Mirena’s since 2007 to 2018 and my body seemed to adapt to them.
In terms of helping Endo I had all this time pain free and a light period that lasted a few days and requires a panty liner. The awful PMT was there and the moodiness, food cravings. But so much easier than before!
Which was life changing after the laparoscopy, ablation, GNHR analogue injection (to switch off my ovaries to give my body a rest) and then the Mirena. I felt like a new woman!!
Every woman is different and has their own reaction to this treatment. So we just have to wait and see, which is frustrating and hard.
I’m terms of self care, I would do what you can to relax - mindfulness wise. Reassure yourself. It could be life changing for your body and your whole world. So let’s see if it settles for you.
So sorry this is stressful for you but you’ve got this 💪🏻💛💐
Thank you for telling me your story. I’m glad the coil worked out for you 🙂
I am hoping the cramping will stop soon as it’s been a few days and the cramps are keeping me up at night. It literally feels like I’m constantly on day 1 of my period. I hope it works out for me like it did for you in terms of pain management
You’re welcome. But if it doesn’t, work for your body, then you will find your way through because you’re an EndoWarrior. We are all different and nobody can predict how we will react. It’s a waiting game for us, all too often and that is really really very tough mentally. It has me raging sometimes - sending love 💗
I’m on week 4 of the Mirena coil and have talked to a few friends/ family who have Endo and have had the coil.
Most seemed to agree that it was normal for me to have a whole week of intense and debilitating cramps after it was fitted and warned me (thankfully) to expect sudden cramps that last a day or so (not including the times your period is due) over the next few months.
My last period was longer and heavier and I’ve been spotting pretty much the whole time.
My gynae warned me it would probably make things feel worse in the short term and to stick with it for 4 months and give it a chance to settle.
I’d say though, that you should probably see improvements in the bad crampy pain after a week. If you don’t, you could always contact your doctor’s secretary and let them know. You could ask for an ultrasound to reassure you that it hasn’t shifted.
But honestly at this point, it sounds pretty ‘normal’ 😅
Just make sure to take care of yourself, use painkillers and heat pads etc. 💪🏼
I had mine fitted during a laparoscopic surgery. So it’s hard to say which pain was what. My specialist told me it can take from 3-6 months to settle in. Like clock work on the 3 month mark all cramping subsided.
I now just get mild pain before my period and that’s it. It has made my periods longer but it’s still just four months in, so this could change.
