HELP... coil and bleeding

Hi, I’m hoping someone came help!

I had my first laparoscopic surgery last February and during my surgery I got the marina coil fitted. I had some bleeding for about 3-4 weeks after the surgery but literally nothing since... until about 4 weeks about when I was bleeding for about 2 weeks on and off... about a week and a half went by and no bleeding...and then I had sex with my boyfriend last Saturday and was bleeding for a bit after and then the bleeding stopped for a few days then I started bleeding again, and then the same thing after sex happened today.

I did contact my GP after the first two weeks of bleeding and she had told me to keep an eye on the bleeding and if it was to continue like that, that I should ring her and she would bring me in and also get in contact with my gynaecologist. But it’s now Friday and I can’t contact her until Monday.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Hi definitely get in touch with your GP on Monday so they can investigate it further for you. I can’t give any advice on the coil as I haven’t had one, but as someone who suffers a lot of bleeding, please get help as the longer it goes on, you end up feeling drained and anaemic. X

Please get it checked out, a ultrasound maybe necessary to make sure it’s still in the correct place. I’ve have had extreme heavy bleeding for the last year with my Mirena . Finally had a ultrasound that couldn’t locate it ! I knew I hadn’t expelled it like previously! X-ray revealed my coil had migrated! further MRI is scheduled for further investigation and surgical removal. Good luck x

Hi, I have a Mirena too, so I looked up if this is normal or not.

In your place, I would first check to see if you can still locate the IUD string. If you can find the IUD string, that's a good sign, if not, it sounds like that's something to discuss with your GP (you might ask about possible displacement of IUD).

Reference:

drugwatch.com/mirena/side-e...

It says that common side effects of the Mirena include bleeding and spotting between periods, and heavier bleeding during first few weeks after device insertion.

In general, if something doesn't seem right, do contact your GP.

If no GP is available, there's the NHS 24 number (111). They are good at giving advice and can arrange out-of-hours appointments if they think that's appropriate.
