Mirena coil, pain and bleeding

hi,

How long did everyone bleed for and did the pain ever stop?

Was it just spotting or like a long period?

I have been bleeding since i had it nearly 2 weeks ago. Most days ive had clots (sorry tmi) i have also had bad cramps all day every day.

Ive read this can last for 6 months. Im not sure i can last that long like this. Its affecting me at work because my job is physical.

Hiya, coil insertion is horrible. I had bleeding for quite a few weeks, but eventually it did settle and my periods became much much lighter, I did still have pain though - just not the horrible draining heavy periods. I barely bled. I would recommend trying to stick it out because I had mine removed due to the pain and since then my endo has got worse and my periods are really awful. The only reason I’ve not asked to go back on it is because we are going to try for a baby soon. For me it was ten times better than the pill despite the pain (which was minimal compared to what I’m getting now). If you can grit your teeth and try making it to 6 weeks? Wishing you all the best, it’s horrible I understand! Xx

hi,

Thank you for your reply.

Sorry to hear yours has got worse since you had it removed. Endo is so relentless isnt it.

I will try and stick it out. I have 2 endometriomas which are probably making my pain worse than normal. I was just a bit concerned about the bleeding even though they said it could be 6 months. I expected some spotting, not full on period.

Good luck with trying for a baby x

Thank you :)

I feel your pain! It’s so hard because everyone’s different and reacts to hormones differently, but in my experience the coil was better than the pill after the first horrible bit xx

Hi Sapphire

Sorry to hear you are having a terrible time with it. My initial pain and bleed after insertion took around a month to get to a level I could manage. 6 months to begin to get a routine with bleeding and then a year before I really saw the benefits. I did almost give up after 6 months, but glad I didn’t. It’s helped massively - I don’t bleed at all now (which is amazing after having 3 month long bleeds at a time) and my pain is only bad now and again but no where near the bed ridden pain it was before. After my surgery for endo removal it did unsettle it again but it stopped quickly.

hope you feel better soon 😊

Hi,

Thank you for sharing. Makes me not panic so much that im still bleeding. I will almost certainly have to give it 6 months it seems.

Its awful that we have to go through so much before anything even helps a little bit. Im so glad its helping you now.

I have a check up in a couple of weeks for the endometriomas so im hoping that its helping those to stay the same and not get any bigger 🤞🏼
