Hormone testing post hysterectomy

Hi, I’ve had a laparoscopic hysterectomy & left ovary removed as well as endometriosis excision about 10 days ago. I know it’s early days but I’m experiencing night sweats & I understand this could be due to a drop in oestrogen levels.

Even tho I had the op privately I don’t think the gyno who performed the op is planning to do the blood tests at the 6 week check up.

As far as I understand, you just get prescribed HRT if you are showing symptoms but just wondering if you are able to request the hormone testing in order to actually get what you need.

I can see that Medichecks are doing female hormone tests but is it also a normal practice?

Thanks in advance.

You normally have to request hormones, that doesn’t include testosterone, if you wanted that as well you’ll need to specify.

Medicheck was quite good, I’ve used it once and did the ultra woman. Gives you a few vits and mins as well.

Thanks @moon_maiden, that’s helpful, where did you request them from GP or gyno? How did you get your medicheck ones interpreted?

I had a few blood tests last year, just asked for them to be added. I also asked at different times for Vit D and cortisol. They kept asking if I wanted antidepressants so I thought I’d show I didn’t need them. They didn’t think gynae route.

I did Medicheck when they didn’t do bloods after possible kidney infection. Very good site and they have doctors that review the results, it was quite a long report. I had bloods taken at the local hospital, it’s an extra fee.

I’ve noticed that g.p never check hormones I’ve now realised I’ve got some what of a deficiency in progesterone after taking the microscopic form which has helped my symptoms I wish this was one of the first checks they did as it could of helped me a lot as stated medi checks is the best one I went to the pharmacy which recommended medi checks they do progesterone checks aswell but results can be here or there as hormones can fluctuate and drop significantly

Thank you both! I think I’ll give medicheck a go as I don’t hold much hope to have them at done with gynaecologist. I guess progesterone would also be tricky to test as it’s only produced in the last 2 weeks of the cycle so I’ll have to probably guess when that as won’t be having periods any more. That’s good to know that doctors review the results.

It makes sense to actually know the levels in order to know what to take hrt wise. My gyno said he’d just prescribe Tibolone if I was showing any menopause symptoms but that’s only oestrogen. Just sounds a bit like guesswork and I don’t want to flare up endometriosis again if I don’t have to take it. Thanks ladies, that’s really helpful x

Have you spoken to GP to request these? Could save pennies 😊

No I haven’t, as it’s only 10 days since the hysterectomy. I’m due to have my thyroid levels checked so I’ll ask if they’ll do these as well. Worth a try, you are right.

Hi

I had the same op 10 weeks ago I got symptoms straight away, my consultant sent me home on hrt patches of oestrogen I couldn’t have coped without abd to be honest I’m still very up and down... even at 10 weeks still early days. Don’t suffer if your struggling as I’m finding it very difficult to navigate

Hope your recovery is going well though and your resting

I did have both my overs removed though so maybe that’s why I was sent home on hrt
