My operation is next Thursday, so 5 days away. I developed a cold a couple of days ago. I don't feel too bad, just a bit of a blocked nose, slight cough - no temperature or anything though. I feel like it's disappearing anyway and I've been pounding the cold and flu tablets.
I desperately need this operation though - I've been urgently referred as my giant endometriomas are crushing my ureters. I can't cope (mentally and physically) having the surgery date pushed back. It feels like a horse has kicked me in my pelvis and keeps coming back for more.
Do I see how I am after the weekend, then let them know? I assume a cold won't stop me from having the surgery. I also had blood tests done yesterday, so if anything was really wrong with me, surely that would show it?
Thanks!

I too got sick on the run up to my lap op last summer. I actually developed a mild chest infection and had a temp so they monitored it and luckily it cleared up just on time for the op. Nurse at my local GP practice had a listen to my chest, took temp 5 days prior to the op and reassured me all was well.
I think because you don't have a temp and bloods came back okay, you should be fine 🙂 I have to say, I found my surgeon's secretary absolutely fantastic to deal with, with a few queries about meds on the run up to my op so if you haven't already done so, you could call the hospital to request to speak with them for reassurance, if it will settle your mind. I would also like to add - I can totally relate to pain from endometriomas so wishing you well & hope surgery gives you some relief xx
Thanks Lizzie, my surgeon’s secretary is actually always a little curt with me! And she always promises to call back but never does haha, so I will call her and let her know, but like I said, it’s clearing up nicely.
Ah thank you - not that it’s nice to hear you’re in pain too, but it is nice to know someone else understands! Hope you’re feeling well at the moment? X
I woke up with a cold the day of my operation and was really worried. As I had no temperature and my breathing was clear on chest they were happy to go ahead. It seems typical, we wait so long then our bodies decide to throw something else in to the mix!! I hope you start to feel better soon and best of luck for your operation x
My pre-OP info said had to phone them if got cold in the 7 days before. If you have temperature or anything with your throat it will effect how you deal with the anaesthetic.
I had a cold in run up to op last year. Get the lemsips down you and drink tonns of fluids, that's what I did and it was gone after the weekend so I didnt let them know.
I was worried I might get a cold before my operation a few weeks again so I used that firstdefense nose spray for about 10 days before so I wouldn't get one.
Yes I think I’m going to definitely see how I am after this weekend - I’m feeling much better and the cold seems to be ‘coming out’ and I still don’t have a fever / temp.
I know this is the polar opposite direction, but when I had my tonsils removed I was vomiting the day before, couldn’t keep anything down, even fluids. I woke up the next day feelings horrible because of it all, but I was scared they wouldn’t give me the surgery I needed. It was all perfectly fine when I arrived, as long as I was able to keep down the water they gave me it was all fine. Ended up having tonsillitis as well when they took them out, that wasn’t known until I was K.O!
So I’m sure as long as you get some rest, plenty of fluids that you’ll be good to go! Our bodies always seem to hate us when it comes to situations like this😂. Just take it easy and try to get yourself as much as back to normal as you can.
I hope you everything goes well and you feel better soon❤️
Thanks Chelsea! I feel absolutely fine today after the weekend, can breathe properly and no cough etc. So I'm going to see if I'm completely better tomorrow and not say anything, as the op is Thursday. I'm very nervous, I must admit x
