Endo and Major Surgery

Hi Ladies,

I’ve just had a Bi-lateral Salpingo Oophorectomy, a Total Hysteroscopy and a bowel and bladder repair. My story is I have had years of the wrong diagnosis. I was told I had IBS, Fibromyalgia, Acid Reflux, Fibroids etc. Then after one MRA test through suffering with my gallbladder, they found chocolate cysts on one of my ovaries. Both large sized. This was in March this year. I was referred for a investigative Laparoscopy. Then I was told that I had Endo so severe that they suggested the above surgery. I didn’t know what Endo was. The events happened so quickly, I signed there and then to have the operation in the hope my troubles and years of suffering would be over.

I decided while waiting for my op that I would speak to my GP and get the facts straight. He mentioned Zoladex but had no information from the hospital as to the procedures from my laporoscopy or the arranged above major op, so he couldn’t advise me further and said to ask the clinicians at the the pre-op. He would try to contact my surgeon. I had very little to go on, I was scared, I just thought I could have a colostomy, a blood transfusion, amounts of numerous other issues.

I then received a phone call two days later offering me the Operation in two days and I had to make the decision there and then. My GP was on holiday, So I took it.

I’m sore, I was cut above the pubis from left to right, it’s extremely painful but I don’t regret it because the pain in others parts of my body has gone. After reading the side effects of Zoladex I’m glad I did it. I was informed that I can’t have HRT for at least six months due to the Endo, but, there are alternatives. This is due to the need to eradicate It.

With some reading I have discovered that certain foods include hormones. I do have a question to anyone who has been through similar, is it necessary for me to change to an Endo diet to continue to eradicate it although I’m not on HRT? Or if anyone has any advice as to what I’m going to go through now. Still relying on my whits?

Thank you

Gosh sounds like you have been through a traumatic time! I reduced my dairy and gluten and sugar which has helped reduce the symptoms but wouldn’t know if that would eradicate it.

Hope you get some answers xxx

Thanks Munchkinola, any advice is welcome. The sad thing about this is, this forum is the really only place that I’ve felt I could talk about it and that people also suffering will be the only real empathy that I’ll have.

I have started Zoladex this week with a view to a hysterectomy in 2-3 months.

I think you are sometimes so reliant on health professionals to make the right decisions that we don’t question as much as we should. As soon as you have issues bug the hell out of them. I regret I never did.

I’m in a similar position, two weeks post op TLH & BSO. I would like to avoid HRT altogether if I can (I’m 36) because I’m so worried about reoccurrence of endo. I’m taking some supplements (phytoestrogens, B vits & Omega 3) and eating some foods which are oestrogen containing such as flax seed and hummus and Soya. I feel good so far and hope I’m doing the right things. Xxx

Hi Janine33,

I’m sorry to hear your going through this at such a young age. I can also appreciate your fear of HRT. I will try anything to prevent a reoccurrence of Endo, like you I’m unsure of anymore issues that may occur, however, we’ve been through enough so there must be a light at the end of the tunnel somewhere. Best foot forward.

Thanks for the info. Goodluck x
