So, if my glucose is good, then my diet for the day has been good or could it effect me the next couple of days?

If your glucose is good today then your diet and/or exercise has been good today. No doubt about that.

But today is not an indicator of tomorrow or day after tomorrow. With diabetes, it is a DAILY BATTLE. Because, your pancreas are continually deteriorating in small increments every day and so is the insulin sensitivity of the tissues of your body.

The bottom line is this....treat diabetes like a a monster that's continually growing minute by minute, day by day. Be sensible and rational with your diet, exercise EVERY DAY and then you may be able to hold the effects of diabetes at bay for a reasonably long time. In the end though, diabetes is not a curable condition.

Thank you. I have been type 2 for over a year and have never really been helped in figuring out a diet. I was given 2000 mg metformin and 1.8 mg Victoza. I lost weight and have been feeling a lot better and more energy. My A1c has been at 5.3 the last 2 times they checked it so they took me down to 1000 mg metformin and

.6 Victoza so I am trying to really modify diet so I can keep it under control I was just trying to figure out if my 2 hrs after dinner glucose check was accurate to see if I am getting this diet thing under control

Hi Vicky68,

It's wonderful that your HBA1C is at 5.3. It would be great if you could keep it there with exercise, medicines and diet. But I would suggest that you don't get hyper about your sugar levels; that is stress in itself and stress undoes all the hard work you are putting in in keeping your diabetes under control.

As for diet, in my view, steer clear of sugary and starchy stuff and you should be good. Again, don't stress about how much carb and so on. Enjoy your life. That is more important than anything else.

The best to you!

Whatever you eat next day will affect your blood glucose not what you ate two days ago.

As you may be aware, fasting blood glucose is measured after remaining in fasted condition for about 8 - 10 hours so that there is no influence of diet on the measured blood glucose. Therefore, you can safely assume that dietary contribution to blood glucose is not there after 10 hours of the last meal.
