I have type 2 diabetes and was taking 1000mg. of metformin for the last 8 years. For the last 4 months I have changed my diet. For the first 3 months I sticked to no carb diet I.e no rice, chapati, bread, fruits, milk etc but my diet had lot of fat and vegetables. After 3 months I had Hba1c done by my GP and doctor has taken me out of all medication I.e no metformin and BP tablets. I have now come back to low carb diet I.e. I am eating rice, chapati, bread, milk and fruits in very low quantities and my blood sugar level seems to be in control. I have not taken any medical advice and have no medical knowledge but just wanted to share that this diet seems to be working for me.

Congratulations, SridharMorti !

Low carb diet is indeed very effective in controlling blood sugar in T2D. There are currently over 380,000 members in Low Carb Programme run by Diabetes.co.uk. They have been able to achieve sustainable weight loss, lower HbA1c without medications and lesser dependency on medications for many at the advanced level of diabetes.

Great job!. My story is also similar to yours. I used to take 850 mg metformin 3 times a day and Glyberide 5 mg twice daily. After following LCHF and intermittent fasting I end up giving up medicine. I am not in good in counting carbs and also easily tempted for junk food. But constant effort helped me.

Following this diet my a1c dropped from 7.8 to 6.2. Afterwards I eat more carb which resulted in a1c 6.7. That indicated me importance of LCHF. However, being surround ed by high carb eaters at home and work, high carb foods are tasty, available easily very cheap my journey is not easy.

My kidney function tests are varing GFR 52 to 60 and blood creatinine 1.2 to 1.5. That is sort of boarder line 3rd stage kidney failure. My doctor discourages me on LCHF inspite of improvement in A1c, lower fasting and pp, lower cholesterol and triglycerides as well as reduced craving.

I appreciate if someone could share improvement as well as reversal of kidney problems, retinopathy and neurological disorders in type 2 following LCHF. I started having them. So far I have not seen any worsening of it following LCHF but seen marginal improvements. Thanks

Well done ! If I was T2 that's exactly what I would do too. I do not like sweet stuff. Seafood yes.

I was 1 point off being diabetic type 2 and was put on metformin and a moderate keto diet by my doc. It's worked for me and after 6 months I'm now 2 points away. Due for another test in 6 months so fingers crossed and maybe then they'll stop the metformin?

I've lost weight as well, not that I was too much overweight anyhow. I like the keto diet as it tends to includes things I like anyhow.
