Early Wake Up Back-To-Back

Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone.

For two (2) days back-to-back, I had been woken up with alarms going off from my CGM saying that I was under 80 mg/dl. After doing a few tests using my strips/test kit's monitor, I had 2-3 6oz. cans of pineapple juice and protein shakes both days before having breakfast so I wouldn't drop even more while walking to the kitchen. I had also gotten messages from my doctor, so she knows what has been going on for both days so far. After the snacks and breakfast today, I mentioned to my doctor that I'm planning to lower the nighttime insulin dose starting tonight to see if this can keep the numbers from dropping so much and fast before my normal wake up time. We'll have to wait and see how going from 6 to 5 units can keep everything stable/not drop too fast.

Hope you all have a wonderful and relaxing day/evening/night. Watch this page for more updates to come very soon. As always, stay happy, healthy and safe! :-)

Gosh! This doesn't sound too good. Have you been exercising more during the day?

I ride my stationary bike almost every day during the week (1:30 pm USA time). I take off on some Saturdays and every Sunday.😀

Sorry for the delay to your reply. If you haven't changed your exercise routine have you been more busy at work or eating less carbs? It's a bit of a puzzle!

The carbs. have been cut and for exercise, I use the stationary bike and walk up and down the steps during the day.

No sorry about the delay in getting back to me. Take your time. :-)

It must be the reduction in your carbs consumption. Please be careful because I don't want you to have a very bad hypo. I had a hypo in the night a few weeks ago. I suddenly woke up at 3 am and it felt like I was having a heart attack. My bloods were very low and I treated myself with some fast acting carbs but, it was still very scary and upsetting. I was frightened to go back to sleep and it took me ages to nod back off to sleep.

What did you have as a quick snack/item with carbs. for 3 am when you were low? We have pineapple juice and bars with more carbs. when it's necessary. The alarms go off around early mornings and sometimes at 6 am. If the numbers are not low, but the receiver goes off, I test and decide what has to be done before going back to sleep (depending on the time).

Thank you for saying that about possible hypos.. I appreciate that very much.

Hi,

I don't normally have hypos so early in the morning and rely on Haribo sweets but, this time I had some juice and Haribos which helped. Unfortunately, my GP won't give me a CGM so, it gets quite challenging to balance blood sugars correctly. A CGM would probably help me a lot because the alarms on a CGM would warn me before I go so low.

You’re right about how a CGM’s alarm would help you get your attention about having lower blood sugars before you drop. My alarm goes off at 80 mg/dl and below so I can test and (maybe) have food/drink as a snack— when needed.

We measure blood sugars a bit different over. My testing kit measures in % of blood, i.e. 5.1 etc. What is 80 mg/dl in my measurements?

When you take 80 mg/dl and divide it by 18, you get 4.4.

Gosh, that's getting quite low. When my bloods are that low I start with serious hypo problems.

The bad part is, I don’t feel that I am dropping, so I really need the alerts to work accurately.

Me too. I sometimes sleep through mine unless I get woken by my family. It's quite scary!

That’s exactly what I was thinking. I sometimes have trouble waking up if I go closer to the 80 and below range.

I changed the sensor from the 1st of March before going to bed last night since it was very inaccurate and kept having issues. So far, the new sensor sensor is okay. We’ll see what happens soon when it gets closer to the 10th day of use.
