Hello all

I’ve just done a HbA1c test with medichecks and it’s come back as 42 mMol/Mol

The reason I took the test is i have the usual aches and pains but getting tired in the afternoons and I have APS syndrome and never sure if that’s the cause

Current medication atorvastatin, clopidogrel and lansoprazole, I also take multivitamin and vitamin b complex

Gave up alcohol about a 18 months ago but my diet not too bad but snacking on crisps and Kit Kats far to much

My BMI is about 26

Been advised to recheck tests in 3 months time or if anything changes contact my local doctor

Any advice or tips

Thanks

Hello Nesting,

Tbh you’ve answered your own question. Your diet is apparently “not too bad” but you need a good diet. Cut out the crisps and chocolate. Walk as much as you can.

Having said that, it seems GPs have been instructed to frighten patients. My sister in law has recently been lectured by the nurse at her GP because she’s on the cusp of being pre-diabetic. It has panicked her, unnecessarily.

On the platforms in the London Underground they, some years ago, painted those yellow lines. The platform guards frequently announce on the tannoy “Please stand well behind the yellow line!” I sometimes go up to the person making the announcement and say, “If I have to stand well behind the line it’s in the wrong place.”

Take the warning about your HbA1c but don’t get stressed.

Henry

stop eating junk food and exercise more, walk cycle swim etc

Pretty sure the whole "poor diet/lack of exercise causes type 2 diabetes" has been long debunked. Other factors, especially stress, can contribute to hyperglycaemia.

If you were ill before/when you were tested, that can cause hyperglycaemia.

IANAD. NOT MEANT AS MEDICAL ADVISE. YMMV

Hi eggbacon here,I as diagnosed T2 in 2009 Started insulin Jan 2013 twice a day in October 2023 my HBA1C was 28 and was advised to lower my doses of insulin from 8 units twice a day to 6 units twice a day for 1 week then I was told to lower them again to 4 units twice a day for 1 week then to lower them again for 1week then I was told I could stop taking my insulin . My HB A1C was then retested the result was 40 and finger pricking tests are in 6 to7 range I have had no typos or I'll effects and been insulin free. My age is 86 years which I am sure has some bearing on it. I do finger prick now but only once a fortnight to keep an eye on it.I am 5ft 10 and weigh 78kg. So quite slender.
