Hi my name is Nikki. I have had a huge issue with a Candida problem over the last year. I'm just going to make this as short as possible. Obviously there is a reason for my Candida levels being off. I've finally found a Dr who understands and has knowledge about Candida Albicans and that there normally is a root problem for it. Well i finally had my colonoscopy today. Its been about 5 hours post and I have long orange, yellow, and white stringy like mucus in my stool and that's it even after I ate. My Gastro Dr said everything looked fine except for a polyp they will send of for a biopsy. I have had serious issues with mucous in my stool for about a year now and very sick all the time. I honestly thought it would of come back with Colitis, Celiac, something. My Mother told me if there was anything like that going on they wouldn't of told me today, that my General Practioner will tell me on my next visit. It's not that I want something to be wrong, I just would love an answer to all of my God awful health symptoms. Thank you

its normal to have more mucus after colonoscopy as it irritates the bowel. they will have taken biopsies also and this will cause some bleeding (not serious) when mixed with mucus it will look orangy

they usually tell you there and then if they find inflammation or think it may be something but will also tell you that they will wait for biopsies to confirm this.

Do you have other symptoms as just mucus on its own is not an indication for either coeliacs or IBD. Mucus is produced to help the passage of stool through the gut, if your bowel is sluggish it may produce more mucus, this would also cause nausea.

also have you had bloods done to check inflammatory markers or done a feacal calprotectin test. x

I must admit the only times I have had trouble with Candida, was years before my IBD diagnosis and was always related to the use of antibiotics, they killed of the bugs I was taking them for, but also my own bugs which kept Candida under control, so whenever I had something like a UTI, I would always get problems with Candida after the treatment was over. Then they used to talk about eating lots of yoghurt to build up your own bugs again!! unsure if that idea still hold good. Best of luck

How did you get on with your GP Nikki? I have a similar problem. I think the mucus is caused by Candida in the gut, the candida can look stringy etc in your stool.

I have had Candida since Feb and it is now affecting my stomach and bowels badly. I have long term health conditions which affect my immune system (ME and fibromyalgia) but they don't seem to be taking this seriously at all, despite it making me feel so much worse.
