Hiya all,

So I finally saw the gastro dr who has referred me for a colonoscopy but advised she won’t be focusing on my stool & blood results from a few months ago with my GP until I have my colonoscopy & biopsy results - no idea when my colonoscopy will be but I am due to see the dr again In March so assuming before then.

She asked me about mucus in my stool which I had never really looked for as I had seen blood in my stool which was my main worry but I have been having black dots in my stool for months now but never thought anything of this but now thinking it may be blood or something also last night I noticed some jelly like substance in my stool also so wondering if this is mucus??

Image to show you what I mean of some of the substance.

I do not have a diagnosis yet but seems that when I go into a “flair up” they are getting worse - struggling with this all.

Also when you’ve had a colonoscopy did you get answers right away & wait for biopsy results or have to wait for answers and biopsy results & get together??

23 year old girl who is extremely worried

Hello you have to wait 2-3 weeks for results of biopsy. I had just had one done they couldn't see anything but took biospy anyway. I am no medical expert but could black spots be something ur eating? Black grapes, peppers? I was/am worried a bit, all I can say is try not to worry and you would be very young to have anything serious

Hi. Looking at your photo reminds me so much of my stool. I can have bowel movement of small balls and when I wipe, this is how it still looks. I also have pain afterwards, like cramping. I don’t think it is normal for this to happen all the time.(maybe occasionally) I’ve been to several gastro doctors and they all just say IBS. If you find out anything any different or that helps this situation, pls let me know. I hate this awful stuff coming out of me too. Thanks

Thanks for responding. I have seen yet another Gastroenterologist and had endoscopy. The only thing she said is that I have a lot of inflammation in my stomach. Now we just have to figure out why so much swelling. I do have rheumatoid arthritis and vasculitis also so swelling is always present in my body. But I’m still suffering with no advice of what to do yet.

I am experiencing symptoms such as whats pictured here, but also what you said in another post- bloody mucus and stomach pain for a few days around it. My stomach pain isn't cramping, its more like a constant pressure like trapped gas which will last all day. When i finally do get some gas out or lay down, it feels much better. But ive never had a problem like this with this much gas. I am requesting a colonoscopy but i underwent a CT scan last year with contrast and they found nothing. However, i had an abnormal pap come back last month (my first in 10 plus years of normal ones). i underwent biopsy of cervix and uterus which showed inflammation but no cancer luckily. Im wondering if inflammation in my body like yours is causing this. I did undergo 2 strong sets of antibiotics a few months ago to treat 2 bacterial gut infections- h pylori and sibo. But my stomach pain has worsened since then

Hey just curious because I’m having my own problems with the possibility of having IBD and I had this exact thing happen to me I was wondering what your diagnoses ended up being and if the dr said anything about this mucus?

Hi Starpd,

So my colonoscopy came back clear of IBD and was diagnosed with IBS (was a really good day no flare for a week when happened) but never got an answer as to what the black spots or mucus was, black spots I don’t get as much now I’m on some medication but mucus I do still experience and it is sticky and sometimes clear sometimes a yellowish colour, sorry I can’t be much help here but if you do ever find out the cause do let me know!

One bit of advice- don’t panic too much about the colonoscopy or prep it isn’t nice but the more you panic the harder it is, I was sedated and asked throughout the whole thing how I was and if I needed more & defo take the next day off work if you can

Hey there! Hope you are doing well today. My recent wet stool kinda looked the same as your photo. Kinda worried. I’ve had loose stools for a week now and yesterday I went to the loo and it was all just water then my abdomen started to hurt. Did you have a similar experience? Can’t really have a bowel movement now I feel so bloated.

Hi!

Sorry to hear this is happening to you!

Yes this was constant for me, and felt like when I was going to the loo my stool had been boiled in a kettle (gross to say)

I went to the GP who referred me for a colonoscopy which I had and have been told it’s IBS rather then IBD even though my stool markers was still high ans still are, I still have this issue but learnt what I can eat with little trouble

I hope you get this sorted would recommend seeing a GP if you haven’t already
