I did it!

Hello, this is my first post. I started c25k in July to do in conjunction with Canicross which I started at the same time. Basically I didn’t want to look like a tit because I’m so unfit.

My husband recently bought a treadmill, which made things much easier for me to keep to the programme, as I have a very busy work schedule.

To start with, I suffered with plantar fasciitis and thought I was going to die after only running for 60 seconds. I bought some supports, decent trainers and a ball to roll my foot on. That cured the heel pain.

Yesterday I completed run 3 of week 9 and was able to run 30 minutes. I only reached 4k but I am sooo proud of what I achieved and the fact I kept to the programme. I do now have knee pain and am a bit disappointed that I may not be able to do the follow on runs as I’m determined to keep running. I would like to be able to run a entire Park Run by Christmas, as I did my first one 2 weeks ago and wasn’t able to run the whole course, finishing the 5k in 40 minutes.

My husband has now started the program. Our son has just gone to Uni and I’m hoping running may be something we can do together, to keep our minds occupied and our bodies a bit fitter.

Anyway, I’m very grateful for this app and can’t tell you all how much it’s helped with my fitness and mental health.

Congratulations to you holdsworthpe on graduating from C25K, many people who started the course thought they were going to die after running run 1 of week 1, no one has ever died after completing that run, well done also on completing your first parkrun, it certainly would be lovely if you, your husband and son also ran together at parkrun.

Congratulations! Most of us don't manage 5k in 30 minutes so you're in good company 😁

Don't run if you're in pain. Try resting the knee, ice packs, maybe a compression bandage and elevating the limb for a few days. Painkillers can help too.

If it doesn't improve within a week see your doctor. There will probably be an easy remedy but there's no substitute for personal professional advice.

I'm sure you'll be out running with your husband in no time. I run with mine, we keep each other motivated 😁

Well done! Congratulations and good job inspiring your husband and perhaps your son!

Sorry to hear about your knee pain. Do see your health care provider if it continues or worsens. And don’t run in pain.

It took me a month of runs after completing the programme to get to 5K and that was a very slow 5K.

parkrus are great as you can run, jog, or walk and any combination!

Do keep us posted….

Thank you, that’s good to know as I wondered if I’d ever get to 5k in 30 minutes. My son’s girlfriend did Parkrun with me and her PB is 23 minutes!! She was really encouraging, even though I clearly held her up! I will keep you posted!

Getting to 5k 30 minutes often depends on your age and whether you’re male or female! This might be an interesting read.

It’s a common goal but many great runners never make 5k in 30 minutes.

I know drl212 got to 5k by building up his run duration slowly over time rather than getting faster. That’s usually a really good way to go. Get the distance first and get faster later!

Congratulations on everything you e already achieved! You might like to carry on your journey on Bridge to 10k forum where there’s a weekly parkrun thread I think you’d like. We also run a weekly quest where you set your own goals and get encouragement and accountability along the way. Don’t let the name put you off-you only have to be working towards 10k if you want to! You’ll find lots of us there running in a similar way to you. Have a browse and see what you think…
