Out at last

Well I done it I went out and done run 1 day 1 and I’m still alive although I thought I was going to die 🙈 I’ve put this off with every excuse I could think off mainly embarrassment that someone will see me and I don’t mean people I know I mean anyone!! I joined a slimming group this week online took my measurements and was truly appalled that I had let myself get to this point and it’s now time to take back control Is anyone else just starting this journey? 🙏🏻☺️

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

Slow down. If you are getting out of breath, then you are going too fast.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

Thank you as I said I’ve used every excuse but when I can hardly walk up the stairs in work I’m in trouble 😞

Hello and welcome to the forum and the program.

Well done for starting !

If you found it hard going then slow down.

Do read the program guide linked to by IannodaTruffe and take a look at this video for a guide to your running pace .

Fantastic! getting that first run done is the hardest, slow down if it’s really hard and we will cheer you on

Well done Katz for getting out there. As IannodaTruffe says, the programme has changed the lives of many, many people.

Everyone here will support you through your journey. Remember, slow and steady is the best way. You're not doing time trials for the olympics 🙂

Also there is no need to worry what anyone else thinks. I started off running in the dark around a track in the woods so no one would see me. Nowadays I'm dressed in all sorts of bright colours. Most people wish that they could find the effort to run and are secretly envious. 👍

As others have said, forget about speed. As long as at some point in your stride both feet are off the ground, you're running.

When I started, over 18 months ago now, I was running in ordinary clothes, embarrassed to be seen in tight fitting synthetic stuff. Totally inappropriate clothing for running, and I'd get very hot in it. (It was early summer.)

Nowadays, I'm out in a fluorescent yellow top and running tights. (They are black, though. They don't make the colourfully patterned ones in guys' sizes.)

Well done!! The hardest part is getting started - I did the first 7 weeks at dawn to avoid being seen!!

It's really important to read the 'essential reading' that Iannoda posted and to go slow. Really slow. Also, if you're using the NHS podcasts, ignore the bit about landing on your heels - its bad advice that caused me a few problems.

The other thing that will help is this forum - do post your progress and ask questions - there's lots of advice and support to be had here.

Good luck!

Really well done. You’ve taken the hardest step already by getting out there for your first run. 🎉 just keep running really slowly 🐢 and you’ll soon find it will get easier. Keep posting and you’ll get loads of support from this forum. Relax and enjoy this is for you. 👏👏👏👏👏

Congratulations! After one false start back in May, I restarted the plan and if you told me last year that I had just done 3 runs of 25mins (just finished week 7) I’d have laughed at you! You’ve made it out and that is the main thing! Good luck!

Well done on getting started. Don’t worry about people ‘seeing’ you while you are running. My experience is that most people I pass on my run are too busy looking at their phones 😁. When I started I was often overtaken by people walking so don’t worry about how slow you are going, you are more likely to enjoy it if you are not busting a gut. You will get faster over time. Good luck 👍

Well done for taking back control katz2021! You’re the boss 😃. C25K is literally one of the best things I ever did, and I’m sure you’ll find the same thing. Take every run super slow and best of luck - let us know how the next one goes 🎄🎄🎄.

Well done. That's one of the hardest runs - the 1st one. You'll soon not care what people think.Trust the program and you'll be ok. (You'll love this ).

I started in March, (also 61), and I can't stop now. Prior to that, I don't think I'd not run since school. Not even for a bus. I thought I didn't like it. How wrong can you be!

That's fantastic! Well done. Starting is the hardest bit and you've done that. You'll be a different person soon - you'll be a runner.
