Week 6 run 3

Stubbornmule84 profile image

I've failed and now struggling to find it in me to try again. Due to endometriosis and shin splints I'm only able to run of a speeed between 5.5 and 6km/h .

And despite managing the 20 minute run without too much pain. This 25 minute had me beat after only 8 minutes. I thought I was going to vomit and started shaking.

So angry at myself.

I doubt you failed. How much DID you run? That's a success, a win. Take that success, polish it and put it on the mantlepiece ready to be joined, at some point, by the 25 minutes. You have two unpleasant conditions in your endometriosis and shin splints and I think you are amazing for being out there trying. Many would say, "I can't, look what I've got".

Chin up girl, next time, maybe consider redoing what you have already done and wrok back to the 25 minutes. You will get there.

I just want to add that I have no idea how fast I am running. What I am doing is running fast enough, and slowly enough, to complete the day's run. Maybe stop looking at your speed and just do what you can,

Hey Sm please dont be so hard on yourself you didn’t fail at all you gave it a go and sometimes the runs are just not right for various reasons.

I’m fortunate not to have endometriosis but from everything I’ve read it sounds horrendous and seriously debilitating. That and shin splints makes you unbelievably strong even thinking of giving it a go when your desired pace is so compromised by both

Also please don't beat yourself up over speed very few of us reach the mythical (imo) 5k in 30 minutes, but the main aim is to get you running for 30 minutes and distance/speed are happy side effects of doing that.

the main mantra on here is to listen to your body as that will tell you how you’re doing. If you can, chalk this one up as a lesson learned. Don’t be afraid to be slow rejoice in snail speed it’s the method of running that makes a difference to walking.

your name choice makes me think you want to carry on, as does being angry. You don’t have to do every run in order and in fact if you’re not feeling at your best it’s often better to repeat one of the earlier runs, just to build up endurance.

No run is ever wasted and I’m so sorry you’re feeling bad at present. Me and many other snail runners wish you all the best.

Can I just say a HUGE thank you to your comments. I sat had a reset and vented.

Then stretched, found a new playlist and gave it another go. I DID it!

Didn't push myself to go too fast, took it steady but didn't give up.

Had a lovely shower and an omelette to celebrate!! Lol.

Wish I'd found this group earlier. You're the motivation I needed! Sadly I'm known for being too hard on myself and often need to recognise a win no matter how small.

THANK YOU ALL!!!

That is why we are here. Most of us get the collywobbles on one run or maybe more and sometimes we all forget what we’ve accomplished. You’re not a sofa runner thinking about maybe someday one day I could run, you’re an actual runner. As Mr JCR says it’s in the head not the legs that the difference is made. So well done you pressing the re-set and doing what needed to be done for you.

Woohoo! So good to read! And speed really doesn’t matter. I’m the Queen of Slow, so know that slow really works and some of us are not only limited to running slow due to various physical conditions but have also found an immense joy in running slow. So enjoy your lovely and awesome slow running!

And so well done for working through this difficult patch!

Well done you — having seen your chosen name as I read this thread, I had a feeling you’d pick yourself up, dust yourself down and try again.

Know you’re an inspiration.

We all have crap days and runs and it’s so easy to turn inward and think it’s just us. That’s the power in a group, it reflects a different reality.

It’s good to share the highs and the lows. It’s good to share the raw emotion/disappointment/elation and then it’s good to use it to drive ourselves forward.

Kudos to you.

Onwards! ♥️

Well done!!!! It goes like that, every now and then for some reason a run can feel like an attritional battle. You did brilliantly to get back out and get the 25 minutes done. 👏👏👏

See, I just knew you were stubborn and mulish enough to do this. Really well done.

Sounds like you are really going through it. Be kind to yourself! Neither of those problems is your fault. Maybe get yourself better before running. Walking is great too. Good Luck!

Hi, endometriosis is so debilitating so well done for doing C25K. I used to be a nurse on a gynae ward and ladies who had hysterectomies for endometriosis were practically running around the ward the day after the procedure as the pain they suffered from endometriosis was so much worse than the discomfort from the op. Haven’t suffered from it myself but this memory sticks with me from nearly 20 years ago. I am sure though that any exercise will help but pat yourself on the back for just getting out there. That aside, week six can be really hard after the high of W5R3 but stick with it, you will get there.

Not what you're looking for?
