Week 5 nerves kicking in

Been following the programme and into week 5 now. First run down with second run due today/tomorrow. I’ve been keeping to exactly the same route for all my ‘runs’ so I can gauge my progress easily. Listening to upbeat music really helps but couple of time my headphones have failed me and runs seemed so much harder. Anyone else need music/distraction to keep going? PS: pretty nervous about w5/r2!! 🥴

Yes I always have music if I run solo. I tried without once and struggled with boredom. I love to listen to the radio. I don’t need music when I’m running with a friend though. Try not to think about your progress until after graduation. Variety in running routes is important I feel!

Nerves about a run are unnecessary because the plan has prepared you. They are also counterproductive. This post about mental approach may help healthunlocked.com/couchto5... and enjoy it........ what is the worst that can happen?

No need to be nervous, if you’ve followed the plan all will be well... it’s easy for people to say that you’ll be surprised at what you can do if you put your mind to it - but it’s true. You are capable of doing the next run because you’ve done your last run.... and all those runs before it. Don’t discount what you’ve done so far!

For me I always listen to music anyway, so running whilst listening to it seemed natural for me. I’m sure there will be days when I don’t want to and just enjoy the sounds around me, but so far I’ve not felt like that. Don’t get me wrong I’ve struggled with some playlists and finding that I like completely different music whilst I run to just day to day stuff that I listen to.

Don’t worry - be happy 😎

Thanks for reply. I find that too, I like quite ‘bouncy/upbeat’ music to jog to. Well I’ve done run 2 of week 5 now and although not easy, it was less challenging than I expected. Thanks for all the positive comments. This is a great programme 😊

I'm in exactly the same place, resting in between week 5 run 1 and 2 and I don't think I could do it without the right music! I find tracks on just the right B PM for my pace and jog along on the beat: Chelsea Dagger by the Fratelli s at 155bpm is bang on at the moment👍 there are playlists on Spotify of different BPM you could try. Keep movin' and groooovin'!!
