If you have never packed your trainers you may have missed out on half the fun of a holiday! For those of you who make sure they are the first item placed in your luggage, please share your holiday run destinations & experiences with us.

My first holiday run after graduation was 5 years ago in Canada 🇨🇦 where I unknowingly crossed paths with a bear. My family took a photo of his bear prints in the snow. Fortunately I was oblivious until after the event. My Son & Hubby were having a cuppa & watching me set off on my run when they spied a bear ambling along from the other direction. Fortunately for me neither of us were aware of each other and he crossed over my path and disappeared up into the mountains minutes before I reached that spot!! The only wild life that I actually saw that morning were a herd of deer grazing under the pine trees where the snow wasn’t too thick. 😊

Well, I've never met a bear on my travel runs Annieapple so you win the internet today 😂

My first holiday run was passing through Berlin. I chose the 'hotel' because it was over the road from the park where the Parkrun was. (I use the inverted commas because it turned out to be very very basic accommodation, small chalets with no sanitation and two sets of bunk beds).

I woke up next morning and put my running gear on, then got a massive attack of imposter syndrome so didn't actually do the Parkrun. Instead I just ran around the park, which was really beautiful, and avoided anyone who looked like they might be Parkrunning. In my defence, I'd only just graduated so running 5k was a big deal for me.

Since then I've run in Poland, Russia, France, Greece and Italy. Temperatures have ranged between +30 and -10C. I think I've enjoyed every single one of them, whether by or on a beach, a towpath beside a canal, going through a snowy forest, crunching through autumn leaves or even skirting past 'Keep out or be shot' signs!

Can't wait to be on my travels again, definitely in the 'first thing I pack is my trainers' camp.

🍏🤩 Your travels sound soo exciting …. all these amazing places! I wonder if you will ever go back and join in a Berlin Park Run now that you know you are definitely not an imposter? 🤣 glad you are still alive ( & not shot) to tell us the tales! Thanks for sharing 🥰

I wouldn't mind doing that Parkrun if I was passing through but I really don't want to stay in that so called hotel ever again 😂

What lovely places SueAppleRun . I visited the Outer Hebrides about 40 years ago, what a fantastic place (long before I started running...)

My running gear gets packed first wherever I go. I'm back in running shorts this weekend so there's hope yet. I did walk out to the car today 😁

🍏 Now that’s a hopeful sign 🤣 Wonderful places you have been Sue! I too ran in South Africa last year! Miami and Hawaii were also hot runs for me 🥵

South Africa was my favourite I think, but I'm happy to explore England now when I'm able to again

🍏 our weather here is far more conducive to a good run! Was it Sophie Rayworth who ran through London at dawn? Now a runner after my own heart …. NE and Yorkshire 🥰
