Having been concerned about the jump from 9 minutes to 16 minutes of running, I had half talked myself into repeating W3 before moving on. But thought that first I'd give the w4R1 a go before deciding......So pleased I did. I didn't struggle at all with the jump in running time. No going back a week for me now.
Still getting that ache in one of my calves, Only now just discovered that it is running up inclines that brings it on again (even though it was extending my stride too much which originally caused it). So now I will avoid the steeper slopes for a week or so and carry on with the post exercise stretches.

Well done! It is a big jump and I came on here before doing it for some encouragement as I, like you, didn’t think I’d manage it. It just goes to show what a great programme it is and it really does work! No looking back for you now - you’ll start to find the walking breaks get in the way of your pace now and soon you’ll be doing thirty minutes! 🏃🏼♀️ 👍🏼👏🏻
Well done, it is easy to talk yourself out of succeeding without trying. I look forward to you completing your 20 min run next week and graduating in Jan
You've just shown yet again, that the body is always prepared for the next run but the mind less so. Exercise programs like these are more a mental test than anything else. They are designed to physically achievable but it requires the brain to believe it!
MANTRA #1: every run prepares you for the next one (i.e. your body is ready)
MANTRA #2: your body is ready but the mind less so (i.e. ignore the mental gremlins)
The only conscience changes in my mind set was to keep my pace down on all of the runs and to (thankfully) over estimate the finish points of the five minute runs.
I was pleased to read this as I am about to begin W4. Hopefully I'll also have no problem with the increase in running time - I'll post when I've done it.
