Only one run left! This one went incredibly well, I was definitely ready for more by the end. I’ve worked out each “lap” of the street I run on is 0.5kms which makes it easy to calculate my distance (plus all the apps I have going help). Playlist was again a random mix - Mark Knopfler, the Donnie Darko soundtrack, the Lost Boys soundtrack.
I think I have a good system now so once this program is over I’m going to work on bringing the time it takes to run 5kms down, and then maybe extend out to 10kms, I’m guessing there’s a 5km - 10km program?
However, one step at a time with the last run on Tuesday night, a few days before my birthday which will make completing the program a nice milestone.
Hope you’re all having a great night

Yes, there's another loose programme to get to 10km or 1 hour on the "Bridge to 10K" forum here, called "The Magic Plan". Tim the Enchanter¹ will be along with a link to it when you graduate.
Don't push too hard for the 5km. That way lies injury.
You're probably best doing a few easy 30 minute runs to start with, attempting to go slower if you can, then mixing up faster, much shorter distances, and slower longer ones. Trying to go slower can paradoxically make you a faster runner.

¹ Sorry, I re-watched Monty Python and the Holy Grail last night and the name stuck. 😉
Thanks for the tips I'm pretty careful with how far I push myself and most of my life I've done martial arts - Tae Kwon Do, Wu Shu etc - so I'm fairly good at stretching, warming up and cooling down etc/
I've done 11 consolidation runs since graduating and have only just thought about heading over to the bridge to 10k forum 👍🏻 that's gonna be next target I think 😁
Glad this works for you but doing half km laps would probably do my head in. I go swimming sometimes and the biggest challenge is the scenery never changes, lap after lap. Likewise I kind of admire those that do treadmill. The lack of distraction would see me giving up, so to keep going shows more mental fortitude than I seem to have. I look forward to seeing your graduation post. Enjoy and feel proud.
I can't do treadmills, too boring! The street I am running on is pretty scenic, although I am running at night - starting to see the Christmas lights go up. But I find what passes the time is listening to good music and whatever I'm thinking about, working on various projects in my head, so the scenery doesn't bother me too much. Having said that I'll be running further afield as time goes on
Good run for you today professor, good luck for your graduation run, I have worked exactly where a 1 Kilometre lap is around the streets when I am doing my runs.
Sounds like a fantastic run, well done. So great to be reaching your first goalpost on a high. Great feeling hey😁😁😁. You've got a plan that works for you, great, this is YOUR journey. And double celebrations, Graduation & your birthday...fab. enjoy, enjoy, enjoy. 🦌🐌🐢🏃♀️🙋
Nearly there Pr0f, well done 👍. Personally like you I aimed for a faster 5k having graduated then concentrated on increasing distance. I use the Nike Run Club app for consolidation runs, which I found great, nice choice of coached runs, you can take your pick and play your own playlist too, plus it’s free. Just my personal choice.
