Week 7 run 1

Boy that was tough! It took all my energy to run my slowest ever pace and all my mental strength not to stop as I passed yet another park bench that was winking at me! Enjoyed the early evening timing but think I underestimated the heat of the day still lingering (got up to 23c in Kent). Tired legs now but it’s done now 💪🏻. I bumped into someone I knew at the end (when I was sweating profusely and my face was nuclear red) - now a few weeks ago I would have avoided but today I went and said hello and he was impressed with my efforts saying there is no way he could have done it. Was nice to get that pat on the back after such a tough run. 🙂

Great running... it may have been tough but you were tougher... this one will build that mental strength you used as much as the physical side... next time a voice in your head says you can’t, you got this run to say you can.

Next time you run past a bench, wink back... they have their uses nhs.uk/Video/Pages/strength...

Lovely to have some positive feedback. If he couldn’t do what you just did, he needs to download the app and get on with it!

Enjoy run 2.

Fantastic run! I would pat you on the back if I could reach! 😁

Well done you! W7R1 for me tomorrow. I can’t imagine improving on the last run so you’ve given me hope

Well done for doing so well in this heat. There’s running slowly and then there’s the Japanese slow jogging technique!

I run this way all the time because I love it (it makes the actual running pleasurable in the moment). There are several parts to this low impact style of running that, so it’s worth watching a few times to catch it all. I think it’s a useful technique to master for times like this - heat, after a break or illness, or if you’ve been doing too much and feeling twinges, as it helps to finish a run. And it’s fantastic for building strength and stamina. So as the next few runs are all running and no more walking you can slow down to graduate. And slow running still counts! I’ve lost over 5 inches from my waist running this way! Hope it helps.

Well done for getting it done, I've had quite a few runs since starting w7 where I felt I was struggling - but then others when it's not felt too bad (until the last few mins).

Well done, and in the dreaded heat too! It's certainly a challenge but it builds great mental stamina...each week as you learn to run further you rid yourself of any excuses about not being able to do it. Yes, it's hard and it would be nice to sit on one of those benches, just for a minute 😉, but you know you can do it so you keep going. Fab 👍🏃‍♀️👏

Thank you Run46 - you’re so right, we already know we can do it by now, it’s more mental stamina 🏃‍♀️

Fantastic!! I did that run too and had to walk in the middle, so will be redoing in next time but I’ll get there. I usually go about 8pm but did this one about 6pm and was surprised how humid it was...not great. Great stuff keeping going 😊
