Week 7 Run 1

I spent an hour this morning deciding whether or not to give myself another day’s rest as my legs and glutes were extra achy after Thursday’s run. After some stretching, a coffee and drinking a few glasses of water, I decided not to stand in the way of progress and head out.

I started off so slowly that a dad running with his child in a pushchair passed me. To be fair he was going at quite a lick and I suspect had he not been encumbered by the pushchair could have run a sub 20 minute 5K. Anyway, my ambling pace turned out to be crucial as the last 8 minutes of this run were to prove challenging.

All was well with Laura today and there was no pausing of the app but strangely I got to roughly the same point where I had realised on Thursday that the app had stalled in the same time. I didn’t know what to deduce from that other than my pace was faster today or perhaps the app hadn’t stalled for as long as I thought it had. Could it be I hadn’t run 30 mins on Thursday but it just felt like it.

Anyway, no room for conjecture or doubt and I got to the downhill part of my new route at 12 1/2 minutes and felt comfortable enough. I kept plodding on to the uphill part with 8 minutes left to run and my legs began to ache severely. I just managed to get to the downhill side road that I took on Thursday with just over 5 minutes to go and my legs were complaining deeply. I ran in a loop and I had just over a minute when I reached the downhill road again and eased to the end of the run in what felt like a hard earned victory.

I walked to the cafe for my celebratory skinny latte and ‘Track My Run’ announced after five minutes of walking that the distance I had covered was 4K. However there was an anomaly, according to the app I had been walking and running for 38 minutes to cover that distance. So I guess I had turned it on slightly before I turned Laura on. The total minutes with Laura would have been 35.

In conclusion if I’m going to try to run 5K in 30 minutes I’m going to have to speed up considerably in the coming weeks. However, I’m content enough. I could barely run for 3 minutes when I first started now I can run up and down hill for 25 mins. WE ROCK ON HERE

Tunes today were The Dead Kennedys, The Jam, The Ramones and Iggy Pop (never get tired of Lust For Life).

Yay! I don’t envy you a hilly run, I’m lucky that my 2 mile route is flat.

The Park Run route (which at some stage I’ll have to convert to) has a gentle slope down to half way, so obviously a slight incline on the return...😬

Running up the inclines is making me mentally tougher and improving my stamina. I recommend running them.

Hmm...maybe when I’m consolidating...or we have another full lock down ☹️ (I have to drive to my routes)

Loving the playlist! Nothing like a bit of Iggy to get the legs moving 😁
