1st week 2nd run ๐Ÿƒ

Hey all. Hope we're all OK. So I did my second run tonight in the pouring rain (which was very refreshing) , And although it was still difficult ( after no exercise at all in years) it certainly felt a lot easier than the first one. I assume pains in the shins is normal when running? I just ran through it. Even treated myself to a pair of NB running shorts today ๐Ÿ˜. I've also joined the local gym (just for the pool) and swimming half a mile or so on the days I don't run. Looking forward to my weekly weigh in on Monday ๐Ÿ˜‚

Well done. Just read your bio and I think I see a tiny, creeping change of attitude already. Watch out, there are a lot of running addicts about who really thought they were immune. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Swimming is supposed to be one of the best activities for rest days from running, as itโ€™s low impact but good for muscles. Good choice.

Running is likely to make you trimmer long before you run far enough to affect your weight, so itโ€™s quite good to take a few strategic measurements when you start. Helps to warn you when trousers might start slipping if waistline narrows. ๐Ÿคฃ

Hiya! I did my W1R2 the same as you today! Although I didnโ€™t go outside and did it on the treadmill in the gym- bit more of a wimp when dealing with this heavy rain! Iโ€™ve found Iโ€™ve been having pains in my shins too โ˜บ๏ธ I love my gym and I do swimming or weights on my days off to do something different! Keep going! We can do this!

I also just did my second run.

Did my first run on Monday. Both days were rainy. Well done us for running in the rain .

Well done Steveee for joining the gym too! Not sure I am that enthusiastic yet ๐Ÿ˜

Great, everyone seems to be running in the rain you wouldn't think it was June but what can you do . Good luck with the rest of c25k๐Ÿ˜Š

Great job.

Pains in the shins are common, there are ways to ease them and also to help prevent them. Have a read in the guide and also here runnersworld.com/shin-splints

Swimming is wonderful cross training for running... I wish I could swim half a mile!

Happy running.

Youl be surprised how quick you cover half a mile just doing a few casual lengths ๐Ÿ˜Š

Just had a look... 32.2 lengths at my baths... Iโ€™d be surprised if I get much past 10. I donโ€™t swim often enough, but Iโ€™m gonna see how far I can go soon I think.

Just do 30 mins of lengths every time. Same as your running ๐Ÿ˜

Sounds like you have shin splints. Iโ€™m on week 3 now and still have pain put itโ€™s easing with compression socks/icing and make sure you stretch after each run. It really makes a big difference. Also Iโ€™m weighing myself daily and taking an average weight every Sunday. If you weigh weekly this can give a false indication of you true weight and may make you feel down when you could have actually lost that specific week.

I've given up trying to lose weight, so the weighing bit is neither here nor there. I've decided to get some exercise going for fitness, rather than lose weight. Then any weight dropped through the course is a bonus ๐Ÿ˜

Thatโ€™s sounds like a positive way to think about it ๐Ÿ˜

Yes me too! i weigh 120kg . Have made peace with it.

I just want to be fit and healthy if skinny is a by product - then its great , but its not my main motivation anymore.

Good for you! Two points to make here.

1. The warm up walk is important, put as much effort into that as your run.

Get heart going and muscles warm and ready to go. May help shins?

2. Weigh when you like, but measure too, now! โ€˜Beforeโ€™, biceps, calves ,shins etc too. Fat converted to muscle wonโ€™t show on the scales.

Enjoy the journey

Fab. I love running in the rain and prefer it to the heat lol. I'm going to advise the same.... stretch after every run and do your warm ups and cool downs. I've had one injury time after about a year of running and I'm sure it was because I didn't stretch properly. (Made me realise how much I love running too, when suddenly I couldn't do it anymore!) There is a link in the couch to 5k advice given in your last post.
