1st run 1st week

Hi all. I'm. Sarah I'm a married Mum of 1 little one. I'm trying to loose weight to feel. Good about myself and to get back into my old jeans. I'm doing slimming world as well as this. I run on my own and it gives me time not to think about work children husband cleaning etc. Time for me. But also.time to accomplish something.

I just finished the 1st session in the couch to 5k. I made it! It was hard! I'm Hoping it gets easier haha. I've never run in my life so my body is screaming at me at the moment.

I can't leave a day between my runs because the only times I can do it is Friday Saturday and Sundays. Anyone else not do the day rest. I figure it's better I do 3 in a role than none at all?

Looking forward to hearing from other couches lol. X

Hi Sarah. Welcome and well done for getting active. Have you read the pinned posts FAQs? Here are explanations about how to do the programme. It is a golden rule that we MUST NOT run on consecutive days. You are putting yourself at risk of injury and not being able to run at all.

I really understand how difficult it is to fit everything in, but I would advise you to rejig the schedule to make sure you don’t hurt yourself. Good luck 😉

Thanks Helen. I am having a rest day today after reading everyone's advice. Some weeks I'll. Only manage 2 others I'll get three in childcare depending and that seems to be acceptable. Xx

Hi Sarah and the very best of luck with this. I too did Slimming World with Couch to 5k and managed to lose 3st during the year.

All the (very sound) advice on this Forum recommends a rest day between runs, for your body to recover. If you did Friday and Sunday, you would at least have two runs a week which seems to me to be a good way to start, as you must be getting a lot of other exercise with a little one!

But the Mentors will advise.

Best of luck

echoing the suggestion of doing Friday and Sunday. Most of my couch to 5k was done on about 2 runs a week. You'll get there safely, the programme can take longer than 9 weeks and it's ok (maybe 1 run a week wouldn't be enough, but two should be). Someone on here the other day said "think of your rest days as training" because it's when your body repairs your muscles and they get stronger.

Good luck!

Great thank you. I'm resting right now lol. Will do run 2 tommorow instead and try and squeeze a night time one in on tues or Wed. Xx

Hi Sarah and congratulations on getting off the couch!... I’ve just finished w2 and already feel a real sense of achievement , (and that 30-40 mins head space away from everything is great isn’t it?)

All the advice I’ve read so far says we must have one day minimum rest in between runs as this allows your muscles to repair. I can only run twice a week too (in between work shifts and family commitments) but that’s not a problem I’m told, it just takes a little longer than the 9 weeks😁

Good luck!

Thanks Liz x

After seeing these reply I'm. Taking a rest day today... I say rest... Ironing cleaning washing playing dolls lol. I'll have to do an evening run I think which I'm. Not looking forward to. The best lit place is the main road but worried people will laugh in their cars lol xx

(Not meaning to sound harsh)... but so what if they do?? It’ll be dark and you won’t be able to see OR hear them!! 🤣🤣🤣

I know that sounds simplistic, and trust me, I am also self conscious when I go out, but, we are doing so much more than the people sat in their cars or on their couches so we cannot let “them” hold us back! Good luck on your next run 🏃‍♀️

Well done and welcome.

You will transform yourself with this training plan, but if you are a new runner it is highly inadvisable to run on consecutive days. Please read this guide healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Much better to do two runs per week with some other non impact exercise on the rest day, to complement your running. Swimming, cycling, weights, Pilates, yoga or or other cross training is all good.

Enjoy your journey.

Hi thanks so much for this advice. I'm. Not going to run today as I did yesterday. I don't want to mess it up this early on.

I think I'll do an ab workout video today then run 2 tommorow.

Sarah

Good plan!

Perfect - non impact exercise - which definitely housework counts as, but an ab workout sounds very keen! - on a 'rest' day is really good and will all help the running!

As for people in their cars, seriously hardly anyone will notice you, as mostly people are wrapped up in themselves so if you find you can fit that evening run in, go for it.
