The Let’s Get The Party Started Quest

Week Three

Wow week three already, how have you managed to keep going in the wet and windy conditions.

Please feel free to join in if you have graduated. We will be running these Quests every week so don’t worry you can join in any time after Graduation, it doesn’t matter when it is even if it is just for the last week.

Also please join if you have graduated and are on the IC, I have found reading and supporting other runners when I am on the IC helps to keep my motivation up and I like to still feel part of this community so if you are on the IC put your name down, we will support you all they way back to your first run.

Here is the explanation of what the Quest is.

What the quest is:-

The quest last for a calendar month

You can join any time within that time.

The main aim of the quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.

We ask that you are a graduate . The main reason we ask this is that while you are doing the program your plan is very structured, so we wouldn't want the quest to interfere with that.

Most popular goals are:-

To run three times a week

To slowly increase distance

To train for a specific race

To add In Stretch and strength exercises

As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice.

Every week I will pin a new post where all the members of the quest can talk about how things are going.

My advise to you is to make your goals achievable as it is very easy to get discouraged if you aim too high. It is better to aim a little less and feel great at the end of the Quest and add some more in for the next Quest. Motivation is at its best when you feel a sense of achievement through something you are trying to do.

Please don’t forget that all the forums are here for your benefit. They are set up to help with questions and queries as your progress on your running journey. Feel free to join any or all. You will find different levels of help on each forum, so well worth a look around.

We have the Bridge to 10km - this forum is for runners who need a little bit more technical advise than is offered on the C25K.

healthunlocked.com/bridgeto10k

We have the Marathon Running and Race support.

Again this is another step up in the type of advise that is offered and it is there if you should ever need it.

healthunlocked.com/marathon...

We have the Strength and Flex forum, which is set up to help you with the NHS stretches and Strength workouts. Squats, lunges and the like are all in these programs.

healthunlocked.com/strength...

We also have the Active 10 which used to be called walking for health. It is a great forum for sharing your walks on your days off or if you are on the Injury Couch.

healthunlocked.com/active10

Please feel free to have a look round all the forums but also keep in mind we need your help for new runners so you can support and encourage them on the C25K forum as they learn to run, so they can come and join us on these Quests once they have graduated.

Happy running to you all

I can’t wait to see what your Quests are going to be!

My event went well last weekend, it was wet and windy but was fun. I had my kidney annual review this week so it has been a bit busy, I didn’t manage to fit my swim in which was a shame but hopefully I will manage my long run tomorrow.

Happy running to you all

Thank you. It is going to be a blustery one I think 😀.

I got a new Parkrun PB last weekend and broke through the 28 min barrier. I got a time of 27:48 which I was delighted with. I’ll be celebrating by 9 year old Sons milestone run at Parkrun on Saturday as he does his 10th 5K Parkrun. Can’t wait to see him in his new milestone T-Shirt in a few weeks. I also plan to get out for a long run on Monday. Will go for 8K. I lost 0.5 pounds in weight this week too. 9.5 pounds to go to my goal weight.

Damien.

That is great news, well done. Please pass on a massive well done from all of us on here to your son for his great achievement, be sure to tell him we are all proud of him. What a star.

This week is galloping rapidly downhill and I haven’t had much energy for running, but I’m still getting out there for walks. I walked 5k yesterday to give my mind and my legs some idea of what that feels like. Still aiming to run 4k this month.

People can quite easily dismiss the protective power of a walk, it really is an amazing exercise. Rfc x

Im still running 3 times a week which is good neary got 5k in 30 minutes. I just wish these high winds would go away as it makes the run twice as hard 😊

Brilliant. You’ll get that sub 30 min 5k really soon.

Yep, I’m with you on the winds, I’m looking out hoping they die down before I have to go out. Well done on your times. Rfc x

I'm supposed to go out right now for a run but the winds are 50mph 😭😭

I’m now running for 35 mins so will keep with that for next week to build up my stamina towards the 5k .

Having had a long weekend away for my friend's 50th birthday, which involved late nights, drinking and generally eating rubbish, I did my first run this week only last night, it was hard, not helped by the high winds.

In regards to my challenge of 50 miles in March for Race at your Pace; I have managed to total 21.5 miles to date, still a way to go yet. I managed a run on the Friday morning before I went on the weekender, then the 2nd last night, need to crank it up a notch I think this coming week.

Sounds like you are doing really! I'm not gonna lie it's a struggle at times. If it wasn't for this challenge I'd probably be slacking off abit right now. Keep it up! 🏃‍♀️

You will get there we are just half way and you are not that far behind. Rfc x

Going OK with the exception of yoga again, missed quite a few days so I think I'm only up to about 5 of the 16 goal. I did an online class yesterday for some variety, led by the teacher who usually does chair based practice for the elderly and I didn't manage all of that before I was too ill and wobbly to carry on. My body is telling me this morning it worked hard!

I've kept up with the food recording every day.

I've got half my swims for the month in the bag - and 'virtually' through Buxton Pavilion Gardens

I'm behind a run so I am trying to get in three this week instead of two. Both the runs this week have been short and slow.

I cannot begin to tell you what an insane week I have had on several fronts so to keep going with my personal stuff this way is very satisfying.

I hope everyone's been able to work around the weather and stay safe!

Realfoodieclub profile image
RealfoodieclubGraduate in reply toGoogleMe

Well done, I missed my swim this week, there just wasent a spare slot. You are right it is a really good practice to be satisfied with all we have accomplished rather than just focus on what I didn’t. Thank you for the reminder. Rfc x

GoogleMe profile image
GoogleMeGraduate in reply toRealfoodieclub

Absolutely. Not all goals need be about stretch and progression, maintenance is good and undervalued. But a genuine challenge is going to involve a possibility of not achieving it and that's OK.

We do need to look after our bodies but there are other aspects to health. I feel so strongly about this: if you are so focussed on meeting your own targets that you snap at others for example.

Realfoodieclub profile image
RealfoodieclubGraduate in reply toGoogleMe

That is so true. I am a great believer in the body as a whole, mind and body, all have to work together for harmony.

I have now clocked up 22 out of 50 miles for my race at your pace March and also ran my first ever 5k last weekend! Only took me 43 minutes 😂 Off for gait analysis and new trainers tomorrow!

Managed the 3 x 30 minutes runs this week and think the germs are firmly in the past. (They hate running.👍)

This morning I tried one of the C+ podcasts & it turned out to be unsuitable for tortoises, tho’ interesting to have tried. After good advice I’m going to stay right with my current Keep Going Out There goal. Will be an interesting time to try to do that, as off for a family break in Portugal next week.... Tortoise in the sun? 😄

I had 5 days with no running as I just couldn't get motivated (due to clearing out my parents' house after their deaths) but I went out yesterday just aiming to do something and managed to cover 5.4k in 41 mins (including 5 mins warm up and 6 mins cool down walks). I'm so happy I managed to get out and I felt so much better after it.

Bizarrely though I managed to pull a muscle in my arm...

Realfoodieclub profile image
RealfoodieclubGraduate in reply toorcadia

That is a tough time for you, it will be taking so much out of you. Look after yourself. Glad the run helped and you felt a bit better for it. I somehow manage to give myself tennis elbow when I run, I am beginning to think I hunch my shoulders forward so I am working hard to try and relax them on my longer runs. Take care of yourself. Rfc x

orcadia profile image
orcadiaGraduate in reply toRealfoodieclub

Tennis elbow from running is pretty good going! I slipped in the mud and jerked myself trying not to go flat out and I skidded about a metre and a half, think that's how I pulled the muscle in my arm - and it's because I'm so tense all the time just now. If my arms hadn't been tense I don't think it would have happened. I have to keep reminding myself to make sure my muscles are relaxed when running now!

Realfoodieclub profile image
RealfoodieclubGraduate in reply toorcadia

You are bound to be tense right now, it is understandable. When I am stressed like that, every 5-7 mins I put my hands down beside my hips and shake them a round a bit to make them relax. That seems to help me a bit. Mud is hazzard, I have nearly done the splits in mud. 😳.
