I hope everyone is is doing ok and those who are still on the IC couch are making progress.
What the quest is:-
The quest takes six weeks. You can join any time within that six weeks.
The main aim of the quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.
I ask that you will be a graduate or about to graduate to join the quest. The main reason I ask this is that while you are doing the program your plan is very structured so I wouldn't want the quest to interfere with that.
Most popular goals are:-
To run three times a week
To slowly increase distance
To train for a specific race
To add In Stretch and strength exercises
As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice.
Every week I will pin a new post where all the members of the quest can talk about how things are going.
So if you wanted to join all you have to do is put
I would like to join the quest, or count me in and then I would like to. ..............
Your name will then be added to the top post and every week your name will be in the quest until the end.
At the end, only for those that would like to, we each put out longest run of the quest and it is then marked on a virtual run.

Good week last week. 1.5 swim on Friday 40:45 - 6mile speed walk on Sunday 1:34:20. All the training really seemed to pay off the only downside is I walked faster than I do at training and I have two lovely blisters on the sole of each foot. I need to sort that out by the HM. Wishing you all a happy healthy week.
Which plan did you print off Miss W? I have a 10mile race on the 17th April and most of the plans I looked at talk about times rather than distance. Eg run for 60 minutes or 90 minutes etc. The problem us they never go more than 90 minutes and that just takes me as far as 7.5 miles 😳
No running last week as I spent it in the Carribean (Martinique visiting friends and yes it was wonderful) and the heat and humidity put me off. But I did a fair bit of swimming (in the sea every day bar one I think) and some walking, so no harm done I'd think.
Weird thing: got home on Saturday around 3 after a 15 hour journey including a 9 hour overnight flight. Within an hour I was outside running, as I figured it might be a good way to reset my body clock and fend off jetlag. OK, so the sun was shining and I'd seen a few runners out the train window, but when did I turn into a person who thinks that going outside and running 5k is a reasonable thing to do after an intercontinental flight!
Plan for rest of quest is to get back into my 3 runs per week routine, and keep building my distance towards HM. (Currently at 16k, so its starting to feel doable.)
I get blisters on the soles of my feet walking briskly. If you work out what to do about it, let me know! There's obviously some shearing forces going on as I have a narrow ridge of hard skin on the ball of my foot, and that's where the soreness and puffiness comes.
I've gone for mainly one off goals this time. As far as the weekly one goes I don't think I did the extra yoga class last week but have got Week 2s in the bag this morning. Investigated the progress of a local cycle path under construction (on foot) towards the 'getting back on the bike' project, and my one run was a tiny bit shorter than my usual minimum but I gave it a bit more welly (and avoided places normal people would *wear* wellies) and got a pace under 9m/km. Which may or may not advance the cause of my longer run aims. I think so as everything has slowed down and shortened over the last year.
2 5ks, then a parkrun PB on Saturday. Course has been remeasured due to a new path and now only shows 4.89 on the Garmin, so doesn't register a 5k PB
Knee exercises seem to be working - keeping fingers crossed.
Extra weight that I brought back from Rome seems to have gone
Volunteered at our Sport Relief mile yesterday. Some little ones looking very chuffed with their medals. Confused by the elderly gentleman wearing number signifying a 1 miler (i.e. one lap) passing me for the third time... He said his daughter was running the 6 miles, so he'd just keep walking till she'd finished if that was OK. HE ended up doing the whole 6 miles in about 1.5 hours - not far behind the others. What a guy! Though he then did tell us that it was the pacemaker he had fitted after his heart attack and moe drugs than Lance Armstrong that helped
Everyone is doing so well! I have done zero exercise the last week apart from a few upper body weights and then I was advised not to do them by good folks here! My body is really stiff and sore and I know that's because I'm not getting any exercise at the minute. But, another week done and it's all moving in the right direction.
Have a great week questers, keep the runs going and for us on the IC lets keep our peckers up!
Still working away towards my 10mile great Edinburgh run on 17th April. Managed 7.5 miles in an hour and a half yesterday but my legs were so tired after. Mind you they recovered enough for me to walk 2.5 miles into town for my tea later on. Jog Scotland leader back after knee probs so we had a 'easier' session than usual. Running, then a bit of hill work the a few exercises to get our gluetes strengthened (to take on all the hills in Edinburgh on that aforementioned 10miles) also did one yoga class and a 4 mile run. Not a bad week!
Pretty uneventful week for me but I'm on track with my goals.
I ran my three 5.something km runs, every time a few seconds faster than the previous one, and I registered to the parkrun website and requested my barcode.
I managed 2 runs last week, a 7k and a 5k, plus I finally tore off the cellophane wrapper from my Barbara Currie Yoga DVD and did it . I enjoyed it, some really good stretches in it and core strengthening stuff . Cheap as chips n'all , it was three quid from Ebay !
Did my 5 x 5k walk to work Monday to Friday too , lost another pound at Slimming World class ( just 3lbs to go until I reach my target now - Woo Hoo ! )
And then it all went Pete Tong......... Started with a sore throat yesterday which has now developed into a hacking cough and streaming cold ! - Pah !
Good Luck to all fellow questers and lots of chicken soup for all those on the IC. Another day closer to recovery. Hang on in there , this too shall pass xxx
Ups and downs, literally Took myself off to Carsington Water for what I thought would be my longer enjoyable run, having done a hill run and a speed run. HA!!! It's (much) hillier than I remember, but I managed 8k so that was great. Didn't quite run all the hills, and didn't run all round it, but now I have something to aim for.
That was the good bit. Bad bits of the week were that I only ran once and then for the rest of the week I stuffed my face full of all the junk I could get my hands on, culminating in a 2lb gain
This is a new week. I've run already and am determined to make better food choices. I have also investigated Dr. Google and found that I probably haven't been doing my squats in correct form, oh and that piriformis stretches will help the pain in me bum
Happy Questing all, and a swift recovery to those on the IC.
Thanks, it was a great week, but a great week that followed several ho hums.
You know last week I stumbled on this page at Hal Higdon's site. The stretches are described differently than I've seen elsewhere, and I found the calf and hamstring ones to work very well:
Hi questers! I'm just in from running, and I'm a bit giddy. Bear with me.
I had a good week, four runs and several long walks with good stretching, but no strength. The runs were (5.5, 4.5, 5, and.... 8!).
I think I've finally figured out what I can manage for speed work (very little), and I also think I'm getting the hang of using the heart rate monitor. In any case, I kept the intensity low enough that I was peppy after running 8k on Sunday. Not a single niggle in the usual places.
I'm aiming for another four this week, probably the same distances. I just completed one with the heart rate monitor and I noticed that at around 2.5k, my heart rate evened out and I could achieve the mythical running in my target zone. It was really, really neat, and I did indeed feel like I could run forever. Slowly, but forever :-).
Positive place this bit of the board is this morning!☺ everyone sounds dead positive even the ones on the bench, even poor old Pops who sounds like she could be going back to bed. Hope it fizzles out before it can get a hold of ya. Who needs stoopid coughs!
Have you tried putting vaseline on your sore feet before you go running? I put it on my sore blister bits or rubbed heels, even the soles of my feet before taking the hound out or running. The big dog pulls hard and I get sore feet so I put vaseline on now.
Myasics plans are the ones I use. They are plotted for you based on your answers to a few questions. Free too
I'm still sitting it out on the couch, I'm not going to run until my achilles feels completely better...I'm hoping maybe (please!) one more week might do it...then my plan is to get back into it gently.
Not Wednesday already! Did my 3 sessions last week and managed a very, very steady 4k without stopping in 30 mins (no hills) excl the warm hupdowns. Also did yoga classes x 2, pilates x 1 and fitball x 1.
This time around c25k feels relaxed and lovely so far. I am not allowing myself to go faster than is comfortable until I am sure I can step up a gear and then only by 0.2kph increments. Last time I was desperate to do everything faster which was, ultimately, demoralising and the short way to IC.
Am now older and wiser than 3 monkeys on a mantelpiece. Or is that just older than the mantelpiece. Anyway, a WHOPPING 4k up here among the ornaments.
Haven't posted due to holiday but have just snuck off for a sneaky half hour to myself and what do I do? I'm posting on here. Still on target, ran 3x last week on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday. Friday was a PB with 5 k at under 35 mins. Sunday was slipping and sliding around muddy paths between vineyards in southern France. Love it. Continuing this week - but will report later.
